Hey guys, I currently am on the verge of finishing my masters in chemistry in Germany. I am originally from India and don’t want to go back. Although Germany is a seemingly great country to live, unfortunately, for me, it never suited me. I have never been so mentally depressed and unmotivated ever in my life (despite previously having a hard life). I think it’s the loneliness and how you’re just never accepted. I cannot think of living here long term. I have nothing against Germany so I would like to not have comments ‘defending’ my stance of living in Germany. I have made up my mind and I just cannot live such a life. I want to ask which country would be great for me. I have a background in chemistry so would be great to have a country that has opportunities for that. That’s the most important. Preferably an English speaking country. Safe for women. Good work life balance. Acceptance of expats(of course I’m not delusional but at least to an extent).

You said not to plug germany, but as a Canadian who lives in Germany, Jace you thought about a different area of Germany? I lived in three different states here and were all VERY different. I was absolutely miserable and depressed in the first one (NRW). I fell in love with my area now. Germany is REALLY really different geographically.

This exactly! OP should mention what type of town/ city she has been living in. Germany is fairly diverse. I used to live in a mid-sized city and hated it. Then I moved to a big city and started to have a much better experience- met people from different countries, friendlier Germans who were more than happy to socialize in English as well as at the same time, improved my German substantially by simply hanging out with German speakers in social gatherings and nightouts by learning the colloquial phrases. Life in Berlin vs South of Germany are like two diffeent worlds.

I live in NRW. I have read somewhere on reddit from a person who has travelled all over Germany that my area was the worst he/she has experienced so you maybe on to something. Which places in Germany are better in your opinion?
