This apparent SoL anime starts off showing us scenery from the city of Atami. We follow the story of Kinme Wakana, who has run a cleaning business in the neighborhood for 2 years. Cleaning was “the only thing I have not forgotten” she said casually to a customer, so she probably had a backstory which will be revealed later I guess?
There is not much drama in the first episode (unless you consider “will the pasta sauce stain come off” as one), we are introduced to several of her customers who all seemed to be nice people, or that Wakana got on their good side through her diligence, nice manners and good work.
The production quality was good, I wouldn’t say top-tier but definitely above average. I liked the nice backgrounds and scenery view.

The author also wrote Umisho and Sankarea, I hope this one will stay a everyday SoL anime and Wakana was not someone reverse-isekai’d who lost her memory or something, I wouldn’t mind it too much but I’ve had my fill of isekai stories recently :)

Then you haven’t truly laundered clothes. Those (and coffee stains) can be a pain to remove if you don’t act quickly enough or have done it correctly.

I must say I was a little relieved when the stain came off since the customer said it happened a week ago.
Done!
This was the second series I liked this season. I greatly enjoy those comfy “working adult” type shows. Especially if it stays so drama-free.
What’s the first one?
Journal with Witch. It’s an exceptional josei series so far (after 2 episodes) and if it keeps that level, I would give it at least a 9/10. Would be a 10/10 if I hadn’t the rule that there can only be 10 in total of them and I’m not sure if it’s good enough to bump another one down to a 9. Let’s wait and see how it goes in the end. I thought Wonder Egg Priority was a potential 10/10 as well and we all know how that did go.
I knew it haha. I already watching Journal with Witch since I love the manga so much. Grieve is such a strange feelings for me because I never experience a loss of immediate family, yet. Ofc I’ve lost pets/partner but I’m guessing a family member are a different beast altogether. In my mid 30s and dreading everyday cos my folks ain’t getting any younger.
Now if the rest of the season is like first two, I think they did a goos job. Just the inclusion of sound alone make the 1st episode better than the manga IMO.
“So that’s what Asa’s singing and how she sounds like”, I think this is the only series that make me yearn so much for adaptation, and quite surprise they did.
Didn’t know about Wonder Egg Priority, I’ll check it out but the subject matter probably too dark for me though.

Just don’t. Or at least don’t say afterward that I told you to do it. The show started so incredible good. Up to episode 4 or so I thought that it was an instant classic, and then it crashed harder than Ayrton Senna.

I’ve look around the reaction a bit, seems like a mess in production and I think not surprising for OG title. I’ll get back to it later I guess.
Any other recs?
If you haven’t seen it yet check out Fune Wo Amu (The Great Passage). That was the first show I thought of after watching Journal with Witch. Also the Working Series by PA.Works.
Nice, relaxing vibe, but the fanservicey moments don’t fit this.
fanservicey
when?
There are a few moments that focus on her body in a more ogling way. Like this, zipping up a hoody, focusing on her chest which you see being pushed up:
And this, where her cleavage is more centered than her face (and where the cleavage kinda came out of nowhere):

I don’t know how to describe these angles other than fanservicey. They’re not panty shots or anything. It’s really tame, but these shots feel pretty jarring to me, because they just don’t fit the feel of the show imo.
Okay, I see what you mean. They don’t make the cut to what I consider “fan-serivce” so I was confused what you meant. Personally, I don’t see any problem at that level and haven’t been distracted from the narrative.
That cleavage picture, for example, is from the POV of the boy and shows why he might be flustered talking with the girl. It’s part of the narrative and has a place. It’s not just there as eye-candy for the viewer.
At least that’s my take.

Yeah, that’s why I went with fan-servicey. I couldn’t really think of another word. By many other anime standards, this is nothing. Though, compared to other iyashikei-type anime, it’s more than usual I think

I see what you mean, but he didn’t really seem flustered by it. He had no blush, like when she was fixing his shoe, and by the time he looked away she was already standing straight again.
But also, the way it lingered made it feel otherwise to me.
