Sarah Gruen. She wrote Water For Elephants. I’d read an article from her best friend about “how she lost her life” & thought she died, but apparently she stopped writing due to paranoia & mental health issues. There were parts of Water For Elephants that were based on true events/people & the grandson of a character was in prison. He became obsessed with her after reaching out to her about his grandma & Sarah felt like she owed him something I guess. Apparently she tried to get him out of prison & I personally don’t think she had anything romantic to do with the guy, she was married. But the people who put that guy in prison (I think it had to do with a murder charge & he said he was wrongfully imprisoned) started going after her. She moved several times, she developed paranoia, she had by that point drained all her money into getting him out & he ended up turning her into a person who couldn’t write anymore. The best friend says at the end of the article that she was skin & bones & seemingly a shell of a person when she checked on her. :/
