All the States with “progressive government” face safety and housing crisis. Because of their “progressive” policies.
If having no nature around is your main con currently, there are plenty of places in Texas where you can live surrounded by nature. Most of it is nature. You can live near the coast and enjoy the fishing and dolphins, or a little bit more inland with subtropical weather where its full of birds, or in the hills country with the great trekking. Texas has a lot more nature than Europe where they call a dozen trees a forest.
There is no escaping the summer heat, though.

I couldnt live with the sun setting down at 2h30PM in winter. Winter depression is very real.
It helps to shortlist it with a list of places you can actually go.
Have you spent some time there in winter? With the sun setting down in early afternoon, winter depression is no joke.
