Technology@lemmy.zip•Reddit signals ominous upcoming "changes” for old.reddit.comEnglish
72·12 hours agoI think you’re right but I also have to imagine the old. users are disproportionately contributing quality parts and replies to the niche communities that make reddit “sticky”.
I’m ok if reddit keeps the users that want an endless feed of memes and low effort content.

PieFed Meta@piefed.social•How has the voting quota impacted power users and content creation?English
11·12 hours agoThere’s a contingent of threadiverse users who interpret “anti censorship” to mean “all speech should be permitted, even against other’s consent” and view any stifling of that to be immoral.
My take is that if platforms permit the loudest voices to overwhelm others, you just have censorship of a different flavor. Piefed is taking an interesting approach to that problem and I think it’s interesting to watch!
I remember this episode it is the one where riker just learned to make banana splits

Technology@lemmy.zip•Is Mark Zuckerberg Actually TRYING to Destroy Meta?English
21·3 days agoThis is just more “if a company isn’t growing faster than the S&P500 it’s literally dying” logic.
I have no love for Zuck or Meta but if reality means anything then their stock price is still ridiculously inflated.

41·3 days agoThe biggest problem with a censorship proof decentralized social media platform is that the instances without moderation inevitably attract the sorts of people that get banned from everywhere else.
Pardon my ignorance but isn’t that exactly what Inoreader and Feedly do?

13·6 days agoSorry I need to backtrack for a moment. I don’t understand how you’re suggesting right-wing discussion need not be on the “Threadvisere as a whole”? How would that even be possible? It’s an open platform, instances don’t get to control other instances.

79·7 days agoAs it grows I think it will be much easier to justify a new person or instance in cutting off entire toxic areas and that will only cause it to grow faster.
Right now we all have to weigh the balance between activity and toxicity but eventually we shouldn’t need to make that calculation, we can have “high moderation” and “low moderation” versions of every topic.
Yeah sorry it’s been stuck in mine since I posted it

I also believe Frigate actually has a home assistant “app” version so it can be installed right on the same device.

No, but statistically speaking it goes bear > star trek fan > star wars fan > Lemmy user
