  • But… what about demons/devils?

That’s actually why orcs in D&D were an evil race in the first place. At its core, D&D is derived from Lord of the Rings. Orcs in Tolkien’s world were created from elves by an evil god/demigod to be his evil army. They had no choice to be good or evil in LotR so that property was inherited into D&D.

I’m okay with this change. Orcs in D&D lore have a different origin than in LotR and I don’t see why they should always be evil. I consider this just one more reasonable change from the original game which had odd rules like dwarves can’t be wizards and only humans could be clerics.

  • What is the justification for pointing guns at people who are just minding their own business?

It’s a performance piece. ICE acts like this because they are pretending that they are actually the ones under threat. That they are really fighting to survive in a lawless land where every man’s hand is against them. The truth, of course, is that the main threat to anyone in the area is ICE itself, but they have to maintain the optics otherwise the media might wake up and realize that ICE’s main opposition in Portland are people dancing around in inflatable frog costumes.

It’s runaway corporate greed. HBO Max, or whatever it’s called now, cut a bunch of it’s own shows. The reason is that if they let you stream them, they have to pay residuals .

While HBO Max already paid for the production of these shows, it’s still on the hook for residuals, including so-called back-end payments to cast, crew and writers, based on long-term viewership metrics.

By removing these films and shows, especially the ones HBO Max created rather than licensed, executives can cut expenses immediately. Warner Bros. Discovery has promised at least $3 billion in synergies stemming from the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery, announced in May.

The content eliminations in total will save “tens of millions of dollars,” according to two people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be named because the finances are private.

  • Ellis last week said agents in the area must wear badges, and she banned them from using certain riot control techniques against peaceful protesters and journalists.

“I’m having concerns about my order being followed,” the judge said.

“I am adding that all agents who are operating in Operation Midway Blitz are to wear body-worn cameras, and they are to be on,” Ellis said, referring to the government’s name for the crackdown.

So, to be clear, if you are assaulted by a person or person who is not wearing a badge and a camera, you should be well within your rights to use whatever force is necessary to defend yourself. Right?

  • Person who knows asks the person who doesn’t know to pay them in grains of rice by putting a grain of rice on one square of a chess board and double it for each other square. So one in the first, two in the second, four in the third, etc. So 1 doubled 64 times. The one who don’t understand thinks they’re getting a deal and it’ll end up as a modest amount of rice. The one who does understand knows that the total will be 1.8x1019 grains of rice on the board. Hence they are both smiling… at first.

For reference, assuming an average grain of rice is 5 millimeters long, laying all that rice end-to-end would stretch 9.75 light years.
