I read a lot of Phillip K Dick for a while. Most of what he’s written. His books are interesting and intellectually stimulating, but at times really hard to follow. Ubik and A Scanner Darkly come to mind. None of it is bad. But it’s hard on the head in all kinds of ways.
Perfume is a strange story that contains parts that make you wonder if the author was ok when he wrote. The ending brings no redemption for anyone involved. There were times I actually felt gross while reading it. I wouldn’t say I regret it, but it’s dark. The message seems to be humanity is garbage
Before I knew anything about Scientology, I tried reading Battlefield Earth by L. Ron Hubbard. Got about 20 pages in and threw the book across my room. What a pile of pretentious garbage
