In the preview of the ships, it claims they models are based on what was seen in the remaster of “The Tholian Web”, but the models shown look more like a Tholian carrier from STO. I’m assuming that what’s in the preview is just the fleet tokens – for anyone who hasn’t played the game, each faction has three larger fleet tokens which indicate a number of their base ships, usually with some unique ability for each fleet – and their base ships will look like what was seen in the show.
Also, one more faction to go. I’m going to bet Orions, but I’d love it if they did a Terran Empire expansion introducing the mirror universe to the game.
B’Elanna had an experience, that at the time she very strongly believed to be real, but she’s also a person of science. I feel like it would be out of character for her to not have some questions, even after her journey to Gre’thor.
In “Tapestry”, when Q tells him, “I told you. You’re dead. This is the afterlife, and I’m God,” what is Picard’s response? “You are not God.”
B’Elanna’s in a similar situation. She’s informed that she’s on the barge of the dead, but is that necessarily divine? Perhaps Gre’thor is an alternate dimension, or something like inside of the Nexus. Fek’lhr could be a powerful being, not wholly dissimilar from Q. In “Homefront”, Worf claims that Klingons killed their gods for being “more trouble than they were worth,” perhaps that was more than just Klingon myth. We know that aliens visited Earth and were perceived to be deities. The Greek pantheon in “Who Mourns for Adonias”, Kukulkan was believed to be the Quetzalcoatl as per “How Sharper than a Serpent’s Tooth”, and even Satan from Christian mythology was the being Lucien depicted in “The Magicks of Megas-Tu”.
Given everything B’Elanna should be aware of regarding the nature of the galaxy, blind faith in an afterlife, even one she’s ostensibly experienced first hand, does seem like a big ask.
So, is Rutherford growing a beard because he’s also trying to copy Beardler’s path to success as opposed to copying an alternate version of himself?
I like it when we get new aliens that look very similar to established aliens. There’s so many species out there, especially in TOS, and early TNG, that are just humans with a silly hat. When we see Mintakans (Vulcans/Romulans), or DS9 Trill (Kriosans), or even Denobulans (Cardassians), it makes me glad to know that evolution does not just make a bunch of different humans with an occasional one off.
It was one of those ones where I had to look up the context. On my first watch I assume Boims said Ronald D. Moore, referencing the TNG/DS9/VOY writer, and “Battlestar Galactica” showrunner. I previously had no idea Piscapo’s holodeck character had a name beyond The Comic, which is what he was called in the script for “The Outrageous Okona”.
October 24 Prompt - Department Rivalries
Reed hates the MACOs so much. It was a struggle to figure out what to draw at first, because there aren’t really departmental rivalries in Trek. The Science and Engineering aren’t at trying to outdo one another. Then I remembered ENT.
Ran over time with this one, because there was no way I wasn’t going to watch the new LDecks episodes. If It wasn’t already too late, some background to block out where the figures are in relation to one another would be my goal.
October 23 Prompt - Holodeck
You would think they’d figure out a way to stop accidently creating life, or, failing that, stop using the machine that accidentally creates life.
When I conceptualized this one, there were more eyes, and I was going to animate them opening and closing, but I already went way over time on this one.
October 21 Prompt - Canon Event Fix-it
I cannot say with certainty with the folks with created the prompt list intended “fix-it” to mean, but I’m choosing to interpret it as something that would “fix” an event in canon. And I think it would be fair to say that there is a lot of little things about canon Trek that I personally would like to maybe…finesse a little bit. However, and maybe it’s recency bias, if I was king of Star Trek for a day and got to make one big change, it would be Jack Crusher’s whole existence.
October 20 Prompt - Space Madness
I was really enjoying working this one, and I would have liked to do more than just Bones’ face, but as I’ve mentioned before, I am very slow.
October 19 Prompt - Decontamination
I am the gamemaster for an ongoing Star Trek Adventure’s campaign, and for today’s prompt I decided to draw my players’ ship’s counselor, Doctor Irin Ch’Kilress, a character I’ve wanted to draw for a while. Why did I draw a dumpy Andorian therapist for the Decontamination prompt? Because therapy is like decontamination for your mind! But also because I didn’t want to draw some horny ENT decon chamber scene.
If he’s going to be an extant character, I could see him as Trelene.
That’s awesome. I’ve been a big fan since “Orphan Black”.
He’s an actor and comedian from New Zealand. Off the top of my head, he’s been in:
I’m pretty excited by the idea of him showing up in SNW. His line read of “We’re werewolves, not swear wolves,” lives in my head. My guess would be him playing a Mudd/Okana type figure.
The orange connecting cover in the bottom left might mark the first time since IDW started publishing these ongoing books that Tom Paris is recognizably himself.
I’m not super excited by this event. Lore rewriting the galaxy isn’t particularly interesting to me. Hopefully we’ll get a new Shaxs tie-in, like there was for Day of Blood.
October 18 Prompt - Captain’s Log
“Log” might be a generous description of the branch I ended up drawing, but by the time I decided I wasn’t happy with it, it was too late. Also, the positioning of the Jem’hadar makes it look like Sisko hit him while he was on the ground, and if I had more time to fool around with it, I would have arranged him better.
Honestly, I just eyeballed it while looking at some reference images.
My go to for comparing ship sizes is the charts the owner of wixiban.com made based on the measurements included with the Eaglemoss models: https://www.wixiban.com/toys/eaglemoss-trek.htm
October 17 Prompt - Other Trek Crossover
My favourite Trek comic is The Q Conflict, which featured the crews of TOS, TNG, DS9, and VOY pulled into a squabble between Q and other omnipotent(ish) beings. This was inspired by one of the covers, featuring the *Enterprise, Enterprise D, Defiant, and Voyager. I would love a sequel featuring some other Trek crews, especially the Disco, LDecks, and PIC season 1&2 crews.
October 16 Prompt - Section 31
Do you think we’re going to see William Boimler again in season five? I know not every loose end needs to be wrapped up, but coming to terms with William’s “death” was a significant moment for Boimler, so I hope they get an episode to have him confront the fact that his transporter duplicate is actually alive and working for Section 31.
Anyways, I didn’t have enough time to colour this one, but I’d like to at some point.
The nose of the Defiant-class was designed by the same engineers who made the turbolift shafts aboard Discovery.
