I travel with a chef’s knife, travel knife sharpener, honing steel, silicone oven mitts, chopsticks, digital kitchen scale, measuring spoons (mostly because I have a cute pig set that is very compact :D), and spices. I keep meaning to add a lightweight wooden cutting board to my “stash”. And maybe some foot storage containers because I keep buying them wherever I go.
I have 3-5 “home bases” in a year, at like 1-4 months each place. I just use airbnb, except in places I have local real estate contacts.

A country being Muslim doesn’t necessarily reflect how safe/comfortable a woman feels, as reflected in Cairo and for blonde/pale women in Marrakech, for example.
I lived in London for a while a decade ago, in my 20s, and even then I found it difficult to make actual friends. My only “real” friend was someone I had known before I moved there. I had a handful of superficial acquaintances but it was like pulling teeth to arrange hangouts with them. I was told this is totally par for the course in London.
I use USGlobalMail. They’re not anything to write home about but they do the job. They will not deposit checks but they do include mail scanning in their services. And mail forwarding.
I use NordVPN and ExpressVPN. Sometimes one works better than the other in different locations.
The free ones tend to suck for one reason or another.
