  • It does not have an internal battery but can use any battery pack that can do 100W output.

I pre-ordered this for a few reasons. One, my experience with butane irons was very different than yours I guess. I hated how long they took and how finicky they were. Then I had to find a safe place to put it while it cooled. This has a cap that can handle the high temp with no issue.

When I need a portable iron it’s to do small quick soldering with long waits in between. This seems perfect for that.

  • As someone who lives in Amish country it is well known that you don’t buy a dog from them. The worst health, most abused dogs I’ve ever seen came from Amish farms. I’m sure fighting dogs are worse but I’ve never dealt with those.

A friend rescued an Amish bred golden retriever that was deaf because it’s ears got infected that bad and never treated. The dog was covered in shit and had it compacted in his ears. Who knows for how long. It took a long time to get that dog back to full health.

  • The pictures do not do it justice. I have yet to see a picture that accurately captures what I saw. Seeing just the mass ejection coronas was incredible.

It was like everything else stopped existing for that brief few minutes. There were clouds in the sky but I luckily was in an area that was clear during totality. I’ve never seen anything like it and will certainly travel to see it again.

That is still just one specific measure. They will also have a specific definition of what they consider spam. What I have found, admittedly anecdotally, is that the results just don’t answer the search anymore. The results aren’t spam they just aren’t good.

DDG did have better results in one major instance for me in figuring out an error message that Google gave me literally no results. DDG has several appropriate answers that LED me to a solution. I don’t think that will stay the case overall but Google does need to do better.

It’s ok to not know something. You don’t have to share an opinion that has no basis.

If you’ve ever done multi-day outside activities in the cold, you learn really quick to not wear cotton socks or under layers. Your sweat is what makes you cold because cotton will no longer provide a warm layer. Wool still has air pockets and will keep you warmer and may save your life or limbs.

Are you going to be comfortable in wet wool? No, but you have a better chance of surviving and not getting frostbite.

  • I have almost exclusively darn tough socks now and have for over 15 years at this point. I do eventually get worn areas in them but I never let them get anywhere near this bad. A small section of padding worn out is enough for DT to replace them for me. My main hobby is backpacking though so they get used hard and often. I would guess they last somewhere around 500 miles per pair for the micro crews. The business socks are also nice but wear out faster.
