Distros are a matter of taste, and you shouldn‘t judge someone over it. But a bit of friendly fun-poking is alright (e.g. „NixOS user spend all night configuring their PC“). Insults directed directly at a person are never OK. And there are of course distros that are objectively bad (like Ubuntu), and you can criticize their creators, and maybe try to convince the users to choose something else (that‘s where Mint is from, kind of), but you cannot. hate. on. them.
Mit Nix wäre das nicht passiert!

And unlike most „forbidden characters“ for file names, the colon is actually used in NTFS: to separate the file path from the name of a
named forkAlternate Data Stream.

It‘s not like a normal parking garage, there is an unusual amount of CCTV there.
How do I do that with the SSD cache? Everyone just talks about it, but I can’t find any documentation…

Europe@feddit.org•Never mind... parents' names are back on Cyprus ID cardsEnglish
6·7 days agoThe ministry has also asked the European Commission whether Cyprus could issue two different versions of its ID cards, one with parents‘ names and one without, allowing citizens to choose.
While Brussels said EU rules do not prohibit two versions, it warned that doing so is not encouraged, as it could complicate border checks and reduce uniformity. Even so, the Interior Ministry says it is exploring the option after receiving an initial indication from the contractor that it is technically possible.
I have them at home and as such don‘t need to spend money on them.
Follow up question: Do I need a separate CPU cooler, or is the boxed Wraith enough? And how loud is it? I can’t really find info on that.
The NAS drives are here because they are from an old NAS which only uses a cheap dual-core Intel, has 2G of RAM, and boots from eMMC. So anything would be an upgrade…
But the mask is a firewall to prevent viruses from leaving or reaching you, so a firewall on ::1/128
Nix is absolutely not just for CI, the idea is to use it locally as well, so the CI runs in the same environment.
Note that any user listed in
nix.settings.trusted-userscan place arbitrary directories into the Nix store, and can choose the store key.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux desktop use spikes to over 10% in North America for the first time. There is also a corresponding drop in Windows and OSX use.
8·7 days agoI‘d have to rewatch the video, but he used Pop!_OS (with COSMIC) at first, and iirc he switched midway because it was so broken. Elijah used Bazzite, and Luke used CachyOS.
I think you both have an off-by-one error there. It‘s /32 for one device and /31 for 2 devices (selected by the last bit). It feels wrong to have /32 be the entire adress space btw.
Oh no, the three people that still use Oracle Solaris will have to watch out!

10·7 days agoLTT did another Linux challenge recently, and this time their verdict was that they‘d all be staying on Linux for their personal PCs (with FakeLinus dual booting Windows, because he needs software there for his job). They did also say that most of their videos will still show Windows, as that is still the primary target of the manufacturers that send them the press kits.
