  • This is the logic of fascism. It happened in colonialist empires everywhere.

There are examples in the US, South Africa, and Rhodesia where white workers unions organized to prevent black slave labor from taking their jobs.

This is also where a lot of the anti-Chinese racism came from because Chinese immigrants were replacing higher paying white rail-worker jobs. It was a point of conflict between the American white working class and the American bourgeoisie who would rather employ Chinese worker they could pay inhumanely low wages to (although the reason why they were so exploitable was because of racism).

It’s revisionist to say that this was entirely imposed upon workers from above. White workers were given the easier choice to improve conditions somewhat for themselves without risking much by punching down on colonized workers. In every scenario where this has happened in history, the majority of the racially privileged working class have always sided with colonialism against the colonized working class (it is a statistical law) because it was the safest and easiest way to guarantee some economic security.

  • I don’t gargle China’s boot, but I think it’s a little hypocritical to equally condemn the US and China as if the two things are comparable. China isn’t in the imperial core and its workers are exploited by Western finance capital, China only passively benefits from looking the other way when they get cheap commodities imported from Africa or India, they are not the ones who actually colonize the global South and cause unequal exchange to exist, they don’t install comprador dictatorships, or engage in imperialist war. In fact, most of the time they side with the anti-imperialist side for realpolitik reasons against the US.

Comparing Western and Eastern chauvinism as if they’re the same is the Western chauvinism I am talking about, you are underplaying Western imperialism and over exaggerating Eastern imperialism to make a false equivalence. China is a tiny empire, but because they’re a tiny empire their active imperialism pretty much ends outside their borders and their interests right now are undermining the power of Western capital, making them extremely useful for the global South to develop into self-sufficiency and break out of neocolonialism. A globalized system of extraction is much worse than a fractured world of many petty empires, a worker’s revolution is much more likely to succeed in the ladder, in the former most of the capital in the world is organized against them.

You should know that imperialism is a systemic thing, not a policy of individual states, that’s not materialist at all. Imperialism is based on monopoly power and is driven by things like unequal exchange and debt trapping, and enforced by things like weaponized specialization, balkanization, and military aid for comprador governments or interventions.

Imperialism has to be fractured into semi equal parts or else the largest part (the West) will just divide and conquer the smaller parts. I support China only in so far as they’re a huge fracture in the previously world-spanning neoliberal empire of finance and oil based in the West. God willing, it fractures further.
