82·15 days agoElectronics.
Granted it’s really cheap to get into, especially if you get most of your parts off AliExpress or small kitchen appliances that get thrown out.
For a lot of areas you essentially have to build up your own personal “factory”. BGA soldering stations (even DIY setups) are… Mmmm…
not cheap.(I really want to get into BGA stuff!)
And offloading the manufacturing onto someone else (eg: The many PCB manufacturers in existence.) is still pricy.
Also: Counterfeit parts! Don’t… Don’t buy rare parts or things for mainstream production off AliExpress. Use proper distributors for that sort of stuff. Getting 74LS00’s off AliExpress for a one off project is fine, but not for creating multiple things.
Especially anything that can by dangerous. I better not catch any of you women buying stuff like mains USB phone chargers, fuses, or X class safety capacitors off the likes of AliExpress of Amazon. That’s asking for trouble.
Thankfully you can get pretty far with Chinese microcontrollers, prototyping boards, and a soldering/hot air station and hot air gun. If you’re feeling real adventurous you can get away with Harbor Freight’s soldering iron.
Not nearly as “bourgeois” as gaming though, and you could argue home electronics is “less of a waste of time” due to the fact you’re creating physical items.
Fuckin’ love my spider solitaire and Avelog’s “Mouse Simulator” though.

2·25 days agoWhenever I need to clean battery contacts in used electronics I grab the jug of vinegar.
One time I didn’t have vinegar, so I used my aunt’s diet coke lol. Carbonic acid did clean the battery “acid”! Not very well though, it got used up quickly.

Tbf my dumb web browser game does this.
It checks if the system language (those “en-us” like strings) is set to Ukrainian or Hebrew. If it is, it’ll set the url to something else, effectively redirecting the user.
I don’t want zionists and state sanctioned neo-nazis playing my shitty game. Liberals would probably call my arrogance, which I am being arrogant, but frankly I don’t think people who go around murdering civilians deserve to play my game!
I’d ban the United States, but I do live there. Besides it’s mostly a political statement, and it’s dead easy to bypass.
I will remove Ukraine when the war ends though, regardless of the outcome. (Unless I already removed them. I don’t quite remember.)
…Maybe I should add TERF island to the ban list lol.
