Agreed we don’t even need crazy speed just someone who can move around and create off script plays and pick up a couple first downs

You mean the Madden Football created player that we always arm the Raiders with on our first season in franchise mode?

4500 yards passing. 1500 yards rushing. 15-1 record. Yearly.

Meh tbh the bar for me is that they’re not a statue. Being a dual threat is cool and all but look at all the (good) dual threat qbs in the league right now. Lamar, Kyler, Allen, and hurts have had to rely on their arm more than ever after teams adapt to their mobility and they look at their massive contracts and realize they don’t wanna have the career length of a running back. Having a good arm with good football iq and pocket awareness is more important than being a second running back imo. I think most qbs coming into the league nowadays have become more mobile overall, so really depends on what the new coaching regime will want once Davis makes a decision

I think it buys those guys time to find their footing in the nfl, they still have a form of offense while learning the nuances of being a passer, it’s why I thought Richardson was going to be good eventually

Herbert and Mahomes aren’t duel threat…but the passer need to have some component of running to their game, and willingness to use it.

One of the more frustrating part of DC’s game was that he was actually pretty quick, but had no feel when he needed to pull it down, when to scramble to pass and when to throw it away (which happens still too fast).

DC broke his hand trying to stiff arm a guy on the Bengals early in his career. Pretty sure the coaching staff at the time really emphasized keeping him in the pocket to prevent that from happening. That’s what he grew up with. DC wasn’t a dual threat, but he could pick up a first on third and medium if the defense gave him a lane.

I just want a good offensive line. I don’t want my QB out there running for his life every down because he has to like Fields last season.

Protected statue > Shoulder destroyed running for 4 yards like Anthony Richardson.

You would think Aaron Brooks or Tryrell Pryor could have been that but it was surprisingly Rich Gannon.

He didn’t light up the scoreboard but for a rookie AOC had a dam good day. Maybe the WRs are making him look better than he really is but AOC hasn’t looked bad. Obviously he could be upgraded but obviously he could get better in a offseason and with a better OC.

Modern NFL means that most qbs coming out these days are “dual threat” to varying degrees

The age of the pure pocket passer is over for now, need a guy that can run every so often to keep D’s honest

Really don’t need a dual threat QB. But do need a QB with mobility enough to get some yards when things break down. A QB’s ability to process information, pocket awareness, and make the correct and accurate throws is always the most important asset. The legs help make up for deficiencies in the O-line.

What’s important isn’t to have a QB who can rush for 500 yards. What’s important is to have a QB who can avoid sacks, extend plays, and run in short yardage. Carr, Garoppolo, and O’Connell all lack that, which has made it difficult for our offense to be consistent week to week. One pass rusher beats his man and they go down too easily.

Mobility helps, but the o-line is the weakest unit on the team. I think it’s the number one reason for the offensive struggles. I think all QBs would struggle with the Raiders current line.
