Awful Systems will be putting up and maintaining a list of open source software that is tainted with LLM code, inspired by a previous project.

We have already had many helpful suggestions for additional homework from concerned moderates, and we thank Dr King for his advice on concerned moderates. I’m sure commenters on Masto will add many more homework suggestions, though nobody asked. We would expect better of Awful Systems commenters than to do that here.

What we really need is a new name that’s anywhere near as good as OpenSlopWare. Those suggestions, we would most welcome. Anyone got ideas that aren’t actually profane? PromptFuckerCode™ is right out.

    My immediate correlation is cargo deny, which is a tool for Rust devs to assert some control over the dependency supply chain.

    So maybe “Supply denAI list”?

    As for “concerned moderates”, a useful thing to maybe convince people who are on the fence but are not dipshits that this is a real issue would be to make the supply chain framing clear – relying on slopware is bad not only for the obvious ethical reasons, but also do you really want to depend on a lib that accepts slop PRs? Really???

      I like “The Human Software Project” for being a rare non-pejorative submission.

      I do think that it makes more sense for the inverse mission (promoting slop-free software rather than shaming slopware), though.

    Two ideas to help with inspiration:

    • So functionally, we are talking about a slop repository. That brings to mind a trough or a latrine. Slopository kind of works because it also sounds like “suppository”, and brings to mind a certain gaffe by former prime minister of Australia.
    • The Germans have a style of toilet known as the “Flachspüler”, which has a shelf for viewing your poop before flushing it, so maybe something based on that or a nickname for it. I’ve seen “poop shelf” and “observation deck”, but maybe there are others.

    Otherwise, here are some low-effort names with a common theme:
