Have to SERIOUSLY re-build O line or you are wasting their talent and throwing salary cap down the drain. And I’m not talking about 3rd or 4th rounders. Go sign the best RT in free agency. Draft a stud center in 2nd round.
I can’t watch Andre James get rag-dolled any more. He’s a backup. So is Van Rouen and Eluemunor
Oline - dline - secondary(mostly just a #1 corner) in that order
um, you forgot QB and Headcoach.
You have to pick your poison, can’t stack the o line, d line, and secondary. IMO our secondary is good enough to hold coverage if the defensive line consistently gets pressure. So I would say d line and o line are the way to go, especially since we already have a stud on each one. Reggie had the right idea back in 2014-15. He just didn’t finish building the defensive line.
If we played more press man, the d-line would be more effective, even with the same CBs. Our biggest problem is that the pass rush gets there about .25 seconds or less too late, because we’re not disrupting the receivers enough at the line. We’ve had zone heavy defensive coordinators since Crosby got there, and it has hindered his production.
O-line, man heavy defensive coordinator, DTs, then you go after CBs in the same year if you have cap space and/or draft picks available to do so.
The pass rush would also get there faster if Crosby wasn’t the only one on the line worthy of being a starter
True, but the vast majority of sacks on any team are because the QB can’t get rid of the ball immediately after the snap. I agree we need DTs before we need CB broadly, and that they feed each other…which is why I listed a defensive coordinator change before each. The bigger reason for our pass rush ineffectiveness than bad corner play or 2nd string DTs as starters, is HOW they are being told to play. We will have a blitz coming and the secondary in zone…makes zero sense in most cases because the QB can just dump it.
We need people with consistent motors. Crosby is in the whole damn game. Who’s his backup?
Yeah that’s why I said in the order I listed… fix the lines first then add to the secondary
It blows my fucking mind that I’m 2023 franchise still don’t understand that the lines are the most important aspect of the game and everything flows from there Your ability to speed up or slow down the game can make or break qbs and secondaries
Upvoted. And I think we can especially see how true this is against mobile quarterbacks and good O-lines, because they run our secondary in circles and wear them out. For instance, I think Hobbs is good, (not great), but if the D line isn’t getting any pressure by the end of the game he will get worn out and look very pedestrian.
Agreed that If we can get someone worth a damn on our d line to compliment Maxx then that helps our secondary. Our o line outside of Kolton is not up to par especially with an immobile QB like AOC.
Having said all that if we have a chance at a QB in the first round I’d take him.
I think Hobbs steps up and has a pro bowl year next season
Probably another good Safety too
