So I just devised an elaborate organization plan to help me get through my TBR cause i realized i own 16 (16!) Unread books. I put a book buying ban on myself till I’ve read every single one of these books. I’ll be reading 3 at the same time no more no less, all of these 3 books will be different vibes/genres from eachother and from the group of 3’s before them. Everytime i finish a group of 3’s i get starbucks or an energy drink as a reward. Will this scheme fail? Probably, idk how efficient reading 3 different books at the time is as opposed to one. How do y’all get through big TBRS?

I don t organise it. I think almost everyday I add a new book to the tbr. I just read what I m in the mood for/ what seems interesting/ I see recommended a lot

I have my main tbr which is 1000+ titles. Then I have my “ongoing series TBR” in which I track progress through various multi-volume series I’m reading.

I’m absolutely a mood reader. My TBR is 100s of books big, I just scan through it and see what I feel like at the time.

The greatest realisation I came to was knowing I would never finish my TBR. it grows far faster than I could possibly read them

I have an order, but it’s kinda random, and if I feel like reading one more than another I will.

The order is more for when I don’t know which book to pick next but I want to read something.

I don’t know, I simply keep them on a specific shelf and read whatever tickles my fancy at the moment.

I have nearly 200 books on there, all I do is keep track of which books the library has. Then I can quickly glance at which books I’m in the mood to read and see if the library has those. Otherwise I’ll buy something, also by mood.

I split them by Genre - Science Fiction, Fantasy, Historical Fiction & Misc.

Bold Font is for books I’ll need to buy. Regular Font for Kindle Unlimited selections.

I keep the list on a word doc at work and a physical list in my billfold

That is pretty much the entire system. About 35 titles on the list currently. Some titles though are the 1rst books of multiple book series or trilogies.

Bold of you to assume I organise it at all.

Picking my next book is more or less like playing a game of “Go Fish”.

I deal with it by regularly weeding my tbr shelves (where 50 books currently reside but I’ll have to get rid of some or there’ll be no room for Xmas books). Anything that I’m not excited to read anymore gets donated (or at least put in a box that’s gonna get donated one of these days, I swear).

    16 isn’t bad at all!

The problem I would have with what you’ve proposed is using a reward system makes me feel like I’m doing homework instead of a fun hobby.

If I have bought books in too large a stack to handle, I do one of two things:

    1. Donate the books I’ve owned for 5 years and never read because clearly I’m not that interested in them.
    2. Find a buddy to read with - I’m part of a few book clubs, but I’m sure someone online will also share your taste! That way you’ll feel like you have a deadline to finish by for the discussion.

Stack them face down and spine to the wall so all you see are white pages. Take the one off the top (you won’t remember what it was if you have a large pile). Read at least 20 to 50 pages. If it doesn’t capture your interest you move it to the bottom of the pile or discard.

I do most of my reading via the library. A mix between physical books, ebooks, and audiobooks. Anything I find interesting I add to my library wishlist and when I need something new to read I go through that.

I generally only purchase reference books (craft books, cookbooks, etc.) or books I’ve loved and want to own or books that are in series I’ve already started and plan to continue reading.

So the short answer is I don’t organize my TBR lists 😆. I’m not trying to actually finish it since it’s always growing.

I was doing my best to get my tbr under a thousand, but then I started adding upcoming 2024 titles……

I read around 300-400 books a year and I still own over 100 books that I haven’t read. It’s not the absolute worst thing to put a book aside until it’s the right time or the right mood.

I’m a mood reader, so I don’t have a schedule, but I do keep a list of what books are coming out during a month, or backlist books from authors that I like.

“What cover looks cool? What feels like it’s not the same thing I’ve just read? I just read a tragedy, how bout a book about a crow?”

I don’t organize it, I just pick from the proverbial pile and sometimes I pick something I’ve already read because I feel like it. I read for the enjoyment of it, not to complete a list.
