Only way I see it is if they have a version of gamepass that only contains Xbox exclusive games. No way Sony or Nintendo want to lose third party sales money.

Yeah they need that cash, Nintendo especially, to stay in business. Unlike MS they don’t have piles of cash from successful divisions to endlessly eat losses so long as they don’t get the ire of investors.

There’s no way it’s being free on gamepass. Activision just did a survey where they asked diablo 4fans about $100 expansion dlc. And if they would purchase it.

If you think they’re going to suddenly give those games away at no extra cost you’re insane.

I’d imagine that if Sony ever allows Game Pass on PlayStation one of the conditions would be that all games offered through the subscription can also be purchased separately.

Hopefully COD destroys itself by that time. Activision has monetized the ever living fuck out of that game for years now, and in the past three years its only increased exponentially. COD needs to die, and a new FPS needs to take over.

I feel like that will be the thing for Starfield. Like you want Starfield on PS5? We have a Gamepass Playstation Sub with that and a few exclusives.

Call of Duty will become its own independent launcher on PC, and its own subscription service on consoles.

lmao the reason they want to expand the service to other platforms is because they lost the hardware race. They lost the hardware race because… drumroll… please, their exclusive games suck. No one would pay for a sub for only their exclusives.

I don’t feel like Xbox or Sony have exclusives that warrant an entire console purchase. There’s only a handful for either console that I actually care about.

If I only had a ps5 I would pay so I could do a run through of Gears and Halo for ol time sake. Newer Bethesda games and CoD due to friend unless their is an alternative.

While you are absolutely correct, I can’t help but feel like there is some percentage of blame due to the naming of their consoles. It’s already confirmed that Microsoft put a lot of resources solely on what to name the second Xbox. If there was an Xbox 2 out at the same time a Playstation 3 was out, no doubt clueless parents would flock to the newer sounding console. Xbox 360 was fine, and we can see how incredibly successful that console was.

Fast-forward to Xbox One and things start to get a little shaky. Then you have Xbox One X. And then you have Xbox Series X. I can promise you parents who don’t have a clue are, at the same time, not patient enough to hear a 10 second explanation on what the names mean. Or they just go with Playstation because it’s just easier.

Again, not saying the naming was the reason, but I genuinely believe it played a role to their holiday sales.

The Xbox One flopped because of their tone deaf e3 presentation that Sony capitalized on. It turned the entire community against them.

Then fast forward a few years and there’s almost no exclusives. The PS4 had a ton.

I could complain all day about how sparse the PS5s exclusives are, but it doesn’t matter since it’s still better than Xbox, and only relevant if you’re also into PC gaming since you end up with most of their “exclusives” anyway. Personally I’ll never be able to consider a game exclusive if it also comes out in PC… Why would I buy your console, then?

It’s easy to land on the PC+Nintendo setup. Especially when you’re not okay with pirating current gen Nintendo.

            well Xbox syncs with PC

It was terrible, at least in the 360 era.

It worked apparently if you started with an xbox live account and wanted to move to PC as well. If you started with a games for windows live account and wanted to go to xbox, no joy - you had to create a second account.

So thats how I ended up with two separate microsoft accounts, borne out of what was originally a gfwl account and an xbox account.

Even as someone who consumes gaming news 24/7, the names of the new Xbox consoles were fuzzy in my brain for a long-ass time.

The issue is that Sony is lacking in exclusives too, but they’re still the best option for people who are afraid of PC.

If you own a PC there’s little incentive to buy either Sony/MS console. You’ll likely end up with a PC+Nintendo setup in order to play the only platform that actually pumps out consistent unique exclusives that aren’t also on PC.

Unless you’re okay with pirating, then you’ll probably only have a Steam Deck or PC. But I don’t consider piracy a valid part of the conversation since most consumers are not going to be comfortable with that. Of course it has to be mentioned before the gotcha replies flood in all “I play Nintendo on my Deck.” Yes, we know. That’s not the point. You’re also not playing online games like Splatoon.

I digress, something people fail to realize about the Steam Deck is that - despite being a handheld - it’s competing way more with the PS5 than the Switch.
