Social democracy is objectively the moderate wing of fascism
I can’t tell if he keeps getting worse or if my views have just changed that much, or some of both. I’m inclined to believe some of both because as the contradictions worsen, if he keeps plugging away at the imperialist reform garbo, he does look easily worse next to even a basic anti-imperialist who has no other ideological grounding.
I feel very much the same way and I think you’re right. I did not understand the whole moderate or left wing of fascism concept until these past few months and now that I do, I see that Bernie is absolutely not an ally. As America becomes more fascist so do it’s defenders with it.
He definitely had his moment in 2016, when he first ran as a socialist. He peaked there, then got scared or bribed and started to moderate his positions a lot more, to the point where he’s just left wing liberal.
Makes sense. I suspect any moments where he seemed actually socialist were largely a result of activists involved in his campaign pushing him to have stronger policies and exaggerating the significance of moments in his career where he did something vaguely anti-war or socialist-lite in policy. And once he dropped out in the Biden primary thing, there was nothing left to push him anywhere, so he went back to being what he always was: a milquetoast reformist with some token opposition here and there.

I myself do not want to “come together” with people who want me killed, tortured, and/or imprisoned, actually. But maybe that’s just me.
