Honestly, I wish more Aussies would learn about what’s happening in America, then maybe one nation wouldn’t be surging in the polls right now.

I’d be happy if Australians learnt about Australian politics.

This country is filled to the brim with politically ignorant luddites who think they are informed because they solely consume Murdoch media.

Good point. I guess I’m a little biased, having lived in the states through the Obama years when US republicans really took the mask off. Now I’m (thankfully) back here with my American wife and US-born kids, so I’m a little bit more attuned to what’s happening over there than the average Aussie. It really chaps my ass when some “enlightened” Australian drops a “well trump is doing a good job on (random thing) at least.” No Sharon, trump isn’t doing, and hasn’t done, a good job on literally anything and may already have ended the global rules based order.

Violent, dangerous empires will always teach you their politics against your will. It doesn’t matter who or where you are.

    Can relate.

I feel like one of these panels should say, “I find out how much the US impacts Aussie lives & politics”.

This is the crux of the issue in my opinion. I wouldn’t give a damn about US politics if they weren’t constantly messing with everyone else.

It wasn’t that long ago they were directly requesting to change within Australia to combat “woke”. Fuck off mate, at least some of your citizens voted to mess up your country but leave ours alone.

I think this is the particular one I’m thinking of.

I probably shouldn’t have used the term “direct request” since, knowing Lemmy users, that’d be taken as Trump himself telling Albo himself instead of governmental agency pressure to Australian institutions etc.

Last week US agencies sent some of those Australian researchers what appears to be a global notice, asking them to justify their funding, as well as a questionnaire grilling them on a host of issues — including their links with China and the Trump administration’s edicts recognising only two sexes.

You’re basically learning from an example.on how NOT to do it, but I don’t see Australia doing that much better, does it?

There are a lot of Americans who are learning American politics against their will at the moment too(their ignorance seems willful and self-imposed in many instances); hopefully enough of them to not support the insanity in the future.

    • “But Trump said he would help union jobs”

    • “But they were just supposed to go after the bad minorities, not my group”

    • “But tarrifs don’t raise prices for Americans, they promised”

    • “But why can we pay $50k sign on bonuses for ICE but not fund education or healthcare?”

    • “But that’s against the law, I thought they supported the 2nd amendment?”

    • “But they’re being violent toward white people too, I thought my group was safe”

    • “But they said they hated paedophiles and wanted to punish them and that they would release the Epstein files”

    • “But Trump said he would end the Ukraine war in 24 hours”

    • “Why can’t I get vaccinated and get my kid vaccinated in some states?”

    • “But they defunded my X when they said they were only going to defund Y”

    • “But that hurts my business, I bought their line that…”

    • “Well I thought they were just going to take away abortions from and track poor, minority group women from having abortions, my case is different”

    • "Why is my USD currency value crashing? Why are the trump coin crypto I bought not able to be sold, Trump has discretion on the lockup period and gets to decide who sells and when?

    • "Why do billionaires seem to be doing really well and at lots of events with the administration and everyone else doesn’t seem very happy?

    • But laws shouldn’t be used only against certain people, don’t they apply to everyone in a system where money equals power?

“You can’t trust politicians, they all lie!”

“I trust Trump with my life, he’s going to fix this country.”

      These are the same person.

Stupid Americans post so damn much about themselves and their country. I bet they don’t know anything about Australian politics.
