Please watch til the end. I guarantee you will not regret it.
(Edit: I know you have heard that line 1000 times, but this, I mean it. I have been thinking the whole day about this video. I deeply respect this youtuber, and well… Just watch it.)
Heat Pump guy get’s “mad as Hell”. I love it.
I think you meant to say dishwasher guy
I discovered him twice, first as
Peoplemover Guy
then
Toaster Guy
My wife and I also called him Technology Connections for a couple of years, as if that was his actual name.
Like how Techmoan is that other guy’s actual name that his wife calls him and he signs on documents
That toaster really was automatic beyond belief
Just subscribed. Hell yeah, we need more content creators to speak up like this. Great content, thanks for sharing.
Been watching since he started, I guarantee his previous content has aged well and is really worth watching today. It’s actually agonizing how slowly we progress technologically unless you’re speaking strictly about microprocessors and touch screens.
Otherwise we’re largely using the same damn household tech we used in the 1950’s, and even lost some over time.
Comments under the video are on another level. Funny, relevant and clever.
If Alec has to speak out like this, shit’s been hitting the fan for far too long. Time for a change.
Started watching, couldn’t finish.
Then saw the same fn link about 12 times and I really just hate that guy now. It’s like top-40 radio – good poppy songs wayyyy over-played.
Why couldn’t you finish? Didn’t care for the content or something else?
A real hero the world needs
Alec’s call to action was refreshing amid so many other outlets smoothing over current events.
The first section though… I’m all in on renewable energy and have been for 15 years. What blew me away was how much I internalized the “challenges” to solar. Propaganda is a hell of a drug. Even as aware and informed as I like to think I am, I still managed to drink the wrong Kool-Aid. The numbers in favor of solar were surprising, even for this true believer.
Was about to watch it, then read “Please watch til the end. I guarantee you will not regret it.”
If I had a nickel for every time I’ve been promised that, and regretted it, I’d be a rich man.
I can confirm that Alec does not disappoint in this video, although I find “please watch until the end” universally annoying.
I really meant it
I know you mean it and aren’t coming at this from the usual angle of clickbait, but
spoiler
doesn’t saying that when Alec deliberately added a fakeout ending spoil the original intent of the art? Aren’t you tainting arguably the best moment of the video for the person who watches it? The fakeout only lasts a few seconds while Alec stares ominously into the camera, so there’s very minimal chance after an hour watching a thoughtful, argumentative video that somebody’s going to immediately click away. I’m sure he very deliberately thought through a balance between faking people out and people clicking off – one which telling people “watch until the end I swear!” throws out the window.
If you watch to the end, he explains that the fake ending was so that he could also post a version that doesn’t get “partisan” for the people who want to share the first part about solar to people who may not recieve the second part well. But I don’t think there’s any risk of people not recieving it well here, and I think it’s important that as many people as possible see a typically non-partisan channel break the silence to denounce what is going on. I think if a huge swathe of internet “influencers” were suddenly this vocal, it would wake viewers up, it could change the course of history. It’s when everyone silently continues their regularly scheduled content that democracy silently dissolves.
Especially when everyone is so cryptic about it. Instantly kills any desire for it.
It’s arguably the best part of the video
It’s not a lie. The last 20 or so minutes are cathartic.
To be fair, Technology Connections as a YouTube channel is pretty good.
So I’d guess this video is well done as well, but I haven’t watched it myself yet
It’s well done…. Especially the end. Took me 3 days to get thru it, but the last 20 or so minutes were riveting
I’m not an American, but as a Canadian this is still far more important to me than I’d like it to be. Hopefully this helps make a difference.
Not a fan of drier topics but it was still great.
He’s really good at making topics you might not expect to be interested in into really good videos. Dishwashers, heat pumps, and so many more
This one isn’t about driers though
driers
Dryers?
It’s worth the wait. He starts with solar, and ends up going nuclear after the first/fake ending.
This time it’s different and there is a good reason
Watched it earlier, they aren’t joking.
A lot of people promising a lot if I watch till the end. Feels like one of those pranks when all the people who wait till the end then want to trap even more people…
watch till
You need not stare at a cash drawer.
Nope. The rant at the end was great
Find the fake ending 30 mins before the end and watch from there. The rest you can skip without feeling guilty.
No, you shoud.
Because there is important backgroubd information. You can skip to the end but the same goes for any thriller movie.
Do you skip there as well to the solution? Then I rather just not watch the video.
I turned it off after 20 minutes, because even though it was informational, it wasn’t new info to me. Fuck the setup, don’t waste my time.
Could have watched an entire movie instead.
Can someone tl;dw the ending part for me. The whole “watch it to the end” is just a major turn off for me
He goes on a rant, saying out loud what everyone is thinking.
This is unusual for him.
Personally I liked the start of it more, where he clearly and simply explains some basic facts that a lot of people need to understand.
I think the message here is “speak out while you still can”
I made the mistake of watching this before bed the other night. Figured I was just watching a good long deep dive into renewables and specifically solar. Went to bed all fired up, especially because it’s just so out of left field for Alec. Loved it. He just presents his information in such a good way to get a point across.
Truly exhaustive.
