      Not quite, it was suposed to be obsolete in the 90’s. It was brought into service in 1970. So still cassette tape level tech but Pre-Walkman.

        I never thought I would get to brag about the fact that I know pre-2000’s technology as a person born in the 2000’s (a pager is an odd concept for me because by the time I got a phone, and maybe by the time I was born, phones no longer needed pagers).

        Would it be like LaserDisc? I have no idea when that became obsolete.

      Funny you should say that because parts of the US military still use floppy discs and magnetic tape technology from the cold war.
