On Monday a man in Grapevine, Texas drove his Tesla Cybertruck into a lake to test the vehicle’s “wade mode.” Police arrested the Cybertruck’s owner, Jimmy Jack McDaniel, after he and his passengers fled the vehicle.

      This is a deeply offputting line for them to be plastering at the top, too. FOIA requests are free and they don’t have any sort of complicated legal procedure to file (you could literally write one on the side of a banana, there is absolutely no format that needs to be followed). The only expenditure to you is in sorting through the records you get back, but even that shouldn’t take too long because you’ll just be getting what you asked for.

      Reporting itself isn’t cheap, but FOIA requests are one of the cheapest methods you can use for journalistic investigation. Why are they trying to frame it like it’s difficult?
