In reality, the phone cord would be a different color, 10 feet long, and all twisted and kinked up. Every now and then you’d have to remove it from the phone (just a clip), and dangle it down the stairwell so it could untwist itself. Then you could hang it back up, and the cord would hang to the floor.

A long cord like that could allow someone to take a call from the girlfriend that you didn’t want to tell the family about, and stretch the cord down the hall to another room where you could shut the door. Nobody would suspect a thing.

It was a different color because If you wanted a yellow cord, you had to get that from the phone company, which was a lot more expensive. At least that’s what your Dad said, because paying an extra $3 might as well have been $50. So your Dad got a mismatched black one from K-Mart.

Not far off. Back in the day of the Bell monopoly, getting a telephone was pretty bonkers. For a start, (almost) nobody actually owned their phone. Why did everyone have the same type of phone? Because they rented it from the phone company. The phone on your wall was the property of the phone company.

Intrusive NSFW thought alert: What if we replace the picture with a screen cap from an “on the phone with her mom with a mouth full of cock” porn?

    I think it’s funny. 🤷🏻‍♂️
