Today‘s game is Fallout 3. I really probably shouldn’t have started another game while I was finishing the DLC of Assassin’s Creed 3 and Pokemon Platinum. But I also really wanted to play Fallout 3 recently for some reason. I may not finish it, but that’s fine. I got my fix at least.
I did a fully unarmed build this time. I usually go for guns but this time I wanted to use my fists to punch stuff. It’s lead to some pretty good results, like in the opening it’s really easy to knock out NPCs you aren’t supposed to. For example, Butch here I pummeled into the floor before doing the G.O.A.T.

First thing I did was of course head for Megaton. I disarmed the bomb and collected the house, then got fresh on the trail of Liam Neeson. I stopped for a moment to get a picture to show off my guy, Player Name, and went on my way.

My quest to find Qui-Gon Jinn took me into the metro. I rooted around down there for a while and pummeled some Mole Rats to death. I was about to heal up and head out to find the Player’s dad again, and then the worst tragedy to befall someone in a Bethesda game struck: my game crashed.
I took that as a sign to take a breather. I had been playing for about 2-3 hours now and I should have been getting some air (plus taking care of some work I had to do). Tomorrow I’m gonna try and clear out the DLC of AC3, as I do actually want to keep playing this. It’s been a blast and I know if I add something else to my plate something will get dropped which I want to avoid.
One of the funniest moments in all of gaming for me happened with Butch.
I had him as my follower, kitted him out with T-45 and a Chinese AR with a ton of ammo. Brought him with me into the chaos of the Capitol building. We fought our way through, and when we got to the behemoth, Butch ran out of ammo. He valiantly pulled out his trusty switchblade, and rushed the behemoth.
The behemoth promptly smacked him with his giant hammer-pole, and Butch went sliding across the floor back towards me. As he slid by, I hit
talkand he gave me a “What can the Butch-man do for you?” as if nothing was out of the ordinary. I exited the conversation, and he kept sliding until he hit the wall, when I immediately got the “Butch is dead” popup. He went down valiantly. Though I suspect there must have been a better option than rushing it with a switch blade.
I always accept the job from Burke to blow up Megaton. Then rat him out to the Sheriff. Burke kills the sheriff while I don’t intervene. I kill Burke, and I get a good early Chinese Assault Rifle and duster and hat.
I’m the Sheriff now, bitches…
You can then disarm the bomb and claim the house by talking to the dead sheriff’s son.
(I tried to then mes and get his son into a slave collar, but he was immune, which was a pity)
Every time I do the quest I tell myself “okay. This time I’m going to be evil” and every time I do it I end up going with the good option. I have yet to actually see that bomb blow. But maybe one day
Been playing the fan made Fallout: London, and noticed yesterday that my saves measure game time in days. So much of my time spent in the wasteland over the years.
Fallout 3 is one of the few games I’ve ever actually played all the way through (ADHD is a bitch) and man I’ll never forget being so mad that Fawkes, the radioactively immune supermutant, refused to go into the radiation filled chamber to save the day and forced me to do it instead.
Yes, I know the game has, since its original release, been updated to include it as an option (even if they have Fawkes shame you for being “cowardly” for choosing it).
Honestly, it would’ve been less annoying if it wasn’t even brought up.
“I’m sorry, my companion, but no. We all have our own destinies, and yours culminates here. I would not rob you of that.”
Yeah bullshit. Why’d you grab the GECK in the first place then, dummy?
I had the GOTY edition for the PS3, couldn’t ever get close to finishing the game, it would freeze whenever I’d get close to starting a DLC :(
Because of this, I always bring Star Paladin Cross on that mission for RP purposes.
Seriously, Fawk that guy.
Tunnel snakes rule!
