The last I heard they just swap a malfunctioning ICCU with one identical to it. They haven’t solved the root problem and the new ones might fail in the same way.
For Hyundai, the extended warranty applies to Hyundai Ioniq 5 models built up to April 2024 and Hyundai Ioniq 6 units produced until September 2024. “All Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 vehicles manufactured after April 2024 (Ioniq 5) and September 2024 (Ioniq 6) are already equipped with an ICCU featuring an optimised design,” Hyundai Deutschland said in a statement.
Recent ars article had comments saying maybe as many as 1 in 10 die and the new one is slightly better but essentially the design is unable to be worked around in that generation. Hence the absurd warranty to keep the prices from falling through the floor.
They increased the warranty to 15 years on the older model with the potentially broken iccu version. Only thing really that speaks against it, is high insurance rates
I want to like Hyundai/Kia, but every decade or so, they make a decision that saves them a dollar and costs the consumer$1,000 and I write them off as a car manufacturer for a decade.
But. The price, and warranty, of some of their EVs is so good that that can be overlooked, in certain living situations. Like if one has a backup car to use during an ICCU failure.
Until Hyundai solves their ICCU problems, pass
I think this is solved for more than a year now.

No, that is solved for two years now:

I’m skeptical. “Optimized design” is marketing-speak and highly nonspecific. I will still pass until they go a few years without problems

LOL.
This guy’s brand new 2025 Hyundai had an ICCU failure before he even got it.
Do not trust Hyundai on major quality issues. They fucked so many ICE owners with metal shavings in engines and it hasn’t got better.

+1.

until they don’t have driver distraction features, spyware, blinding headlights, and touchscreens instead of physical controls, pass
