No one gives a fuck about October 7.
No one cares. They used to, but then Israel spent three years showing the world why October 7 happened in the first place. After witnessing the cruelty and savagery of the state of Israel, people get it now. Everyone understands.
After Hamas launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on the morning of October 7, there was an outpouring of love and sympathy for Israel from around the entire world. Every major landmark from the Eiffel Tower to the Sydney Opera House to the Empire State Building were illuminated blue and white in solidarity with the Israeli people. Grown men wept. Bono permanently ruined “Pride (In The Name of Love)” by changing the lyrics to “Early morning, October 7, as the sun is rising in the desert sky, Stars of David, they took your life, but they could not take your priiiiide.”
Anyone who hadn’t been following the Israel-Palestine issue very closely was on Israel’s side that day. And then the bombs started dropping.
And dropping.
And dropping.
And dropping.
And as the bombs dropped, Israel’s approval rating dropped with them.
There are only so many children you can see shredded to bits by Israeli military explosives before you start suspecting that there’s something terribly wrong with the Zionist project.
There are only so many pictures and videos you can see posted by IDF troops dressed in the underwear of dead and displaced Palestinian women before you start wondering if there’s something terribly wrong with the culture of the Israeli military.
There are only so many Israeli polls you can see published showing overwhelming support for the Gaza onslaught before you start believing there is something terribly wrong with Israeli society itself.
There are only so many mainstream humanitarian institutions who can determine that Israel is guilty of genocide before you start recognizing exactly what it is that you are looking at.
There are only so many bombed-out hospitals, so many miles of completely flattened neighborhoods, so many grizzly accounts of Palestinian prisoners being brutally raped and tortured by Israeli soldiers you can see before all the excuses, justifications and spin stop working on you.
And once the hasbara stops working, it’s just you and the unadorned reality of the situation, staring each other right in the eyes.
The propagandists and spinmeisters have been falling all over themselves trying to frame the world’s plummeting support for Israel as an epidemic of “antisemitism”, but that’s not working anymore either. Everyone knows it’s a lie. Nobody’s buying it. It just feels like they’re insulting your intelligence. […]
And yet western news outlets seem to be making a coordinated attempt to use this anniversary to elicit sympathy for the state of Israel. That is propaganda in action.

Hamas did nothing wrong.
The enemy of your enemy is not your friend.
Don’t defend Hamas, they’re bad too.
Moreover, by defending them you’re reinforcing the Israeli lie that the genocide is a war against Hamas.
It’s not; it’s a genocide being committed against the Palestinian people, and has been since before October 7.
So don’t buy into the framing pushed by the people committing genocide.
Instead, center the Palestinian people.
Focus on their rights and their humanity, and condemning the crimes being committed against them.
Hamas is the military of the Palestinian people and are defending themselves in the only ways available. If you removed Hamas there would be literally nothing stopping the Israelis from finishing the genocide. So materially, criticizing them does nothing but manufacture consent for the genocide.
You can sit on your moral high ground all you want, but your condemnation of Hamas helps Israel.
You liberals will really contort yourself into every kind of pretzel-logic possible to protect your precious little white supremacist colonialist project, won’t you?
I am… and Hamas did nothing wrong.
You mean… like their right to use lethal force against a genocidal white supremacist colonialist state?
You do realize that prior to 2023, the Israeli government financially supported militant groups in Palestine including the Muslim brotherhood and hamas in order to undermine secular authorities in the region
So what? Two things can be true. Hamas is the militant arm of the Palestinian people and should be supported in their fight against genocide, as the Palestinian people themselves do. And also Israel funded them because they wanted a fight and an excuse to openly genocide the region.
You mean… like the PLO?
The PLO you liberals hysterically painted as “terrorists” back then, too?
Netanyahu baited the hook and dangled it over Gaza. The IDF was pulled back from the border. They threw a fucking rave right along the fenceline. Everyone in the region knew it was going to happen weeks in advance, from the Qataris to the Egyptians. And the end result of the single day of protest has been a blank check from Western nations to the Israeli government to kill tens of thousands of people.
Saying “Hamas did nothing wrong” with respect to 10/7 feels like saying the Taliban did nothing wrong with respect to 9/11. They fully stepped in it. Nobody else in the region was prepared for the consequences. Lebanon is in ruins. Iran has suffered the worst attack on its soil since the 1980s. Syria is fully enthralled to Israel. It’s open season on Muslims from Libya to Afghanistan.
Not to say that’s all bound up in 10/7. But this was a trap laid by western governments that they were pushed directly into. Enormous blunder that’s cost the organization everything.
Oh, give it a rest, liberal. Israel (supposedly) was playing 4D chess instead of suffering the exact same kind of intelligence failure that nearly all military beurocracies have suffered at one point ot the other throughout the modern era because Israel is so… special, maybe?
Lol!
Spoiler alert, liberal… they didn’t. Hell… they were barely involved.
You mean… like it’s been since the Middle Ages?
What else do you feel like pinning on Hamas, lib? The Black Plague, perhaps?
Just a little “Bin Laden Determined to Strike America” Oopsie-Doodle. Nothing to see here, folks. Conveniently gave the government carte blanche to wage war on ever one of its regional enemies. But hey, shit happens. Don’t think too hard about it.
There have been more and longer wars on the European Mainland than between Middle Eastern nations. If anything, the current conflict in the Levant is just a Cold War hangover that’s claiming hundreds of thousands of Arabs and Persians as collateral damage.
Right, right… and Operation Barbarossa was just an elaborate scheme finagled by Stalin to give the Soviet Union control over eastern Europe.
You wanna run that by me again, Clyde? Are you trying to claim that Zionism - and the white supremacists that invented it - is just a “Cold War Hangover”?
Israel operates as a forward position for US military around a central hub of espionage and money laundering.
To quote former president Joe Biden “If Israel didn’t exist, we’d have to invent it”.
Fully a creature of the US empire
So is Saudi Arabia - but you don’t see Germany trying to make “anti-monarchism” a capital offense, do you? Hell… the Islamophobia is almost as thick today as it was in 1099.
I’d say there are some huge gaps in your reasoning.
German and Saudi intelligence services have had close ties since 1954.
Sure thing
That doesn’t prove what you think it does. And…
…neither does your link. Even South Africa has sold arms to Saudi Arabis - in spite of our moral grandstanding on the international stage.
Please explain?
Jews bad
EDIT: Just so we are clear, I’m making fun of shallow Lemmy thinktankers that either see the world in binary, or thru really distorted lenses where you accept evil just to spite other evil without realizing how this normalized evilness.
What is there to explain?
Considering any side of this conflict to be innocent and fully justified is a massive oversimplificstion.
Right, right… white supremacist genocide is “complicated,” eh liberal?
What’s next on the liberal apologetics tour? The Warsaw Uprising justifies the Holocaust, perhaps?
You’re funny
I’m tempted to add more since I live and Lebanon and am very directly impacted by the war, but this is too funny to take seriously.
Let me guess one of those that celebrated Sabra and Shatilla
And I live in South Africa - would you like me to list all the ways in which white supremacists here “complicates” the actions of the Apartheid-regime?
You can shove your “nuance” where the sun don’t shine, lib.
Right thats it. I’m taking the word “liberal” off of lemmy and putting it on the shelf until you behave
Feel free to take the entirety of .world with you.
Oh wow, so edgy, what a loser.
“Banned silentaba @lemmy.zip from the community Fediverse vs Disinformation@lemmy.dbzer0.com reason: Zionist”
But the clown this account was responding to gets a pass? I guess I’ll block this community before some dickhead mod takes exception to my comment.
Again… Hamas did nothing wrong.
Which part of that are you finding difficult to understand?
Repeating yourself doesn’t make you any less of a basement dwelling loser.
Whining like a little degenerate white supremacist doesn’t make Hamas’ actions any less justified.
I hope you get to enjoy some Hamas hospitality yourself then. If you’re so supportive of them, then please do move to Gaza.
You think Hamas is why someone wouldn’t move to Gaza? Really? I don’t believe you.
If you are so enamoured with that little white supremacist settler-colonialist project you should really consider signing up for the IDF.
They will even give you a medal for being a rapist - sound good to you?
