Bush 2 is a direct line to trump. From courting the evangelicals and bringing their supply side Jesus to the front to legitimizing stubbornness and agressive ignorance as quality in a presidency. He ran on not skill, competence, and education, but “who do you want your drinking buddy to be?” Literally. If you were around when he ran the unofficial question was “who would you rather have a beer with?” Hence the news paying attention to Obama’s occasional beer, and Obama having a drink with whomever.
Bush mashed the accelerator pedal on all the things needed to make it easier for the far right to swoop in and take over.
And for those who believe the Democrats are going to swoop in and save us, I point to Obama who did nothing of the sort and spent 8 years just kind of being an additional 2 bush terms.
Sure. Bush was a horrible piece of shit… But compared to Trump, he at least pretended to be decent, which isn’t saying a lot, and saying he wasn’t as bad as the current President isn’t really defending him, either

Except nobody is defending anything. It’s perfectly valid to say “wow, remember how much stage 1 cancer sucked? Stage 4 sucks even worse than that.”
