Are you in the clear yet as far as references go?

Not cool that your previous reference guy disappeared :(

Oh, wow. So last week I explained the situation with my current school to the lady from the TAFE. She asked around and has been able to organise for me to start before my unenrolment is officially processed. I have missed the intake date now which was yesterday evening.

But she just sent me the enrolment paperwork I need to sign, and once I’ve done that, she said I can just organise a phone call with the teacher to catch up on what I missed and can start next Tuesday!

Holy fucking shit, it’s wild how things go from 0-100 so quickly. I was about 75% expecting to not start until the next intake, but it’s going to finally happen…

Edit: bloody hell, today must be the day of things happening because I just got a call from the police about the report I made 8 days ago

After some awful sleep bathed in sweat and feeling like my brain was going to explode from overheating and headaches, I still feel sick so another day off work. Grumble mumble moan. Today I’m not going to do stupid shit like try and read academic articles to catch up on uni stuff, I am properly resting.

Ouch, that sounds awful. Hope it clears up soon for you - I hope it doesn’t get that bad for me. I rarely get respiratory problems. I’ve got a light dry cough/sore throat that seems to be on the mend, mostly moved back to headaches/congestion, which was what I started off with on Saturday, hopefully the worst is over…

I’m so grateful that the kids can get themselves up, make their own breakfasts and lunches and get themselves off to school without me. Even as recently as a year ago, I would have needed to get up and facilitate that.

Small wins. Almost belongs in the gratitude thread. 😃

Gosh yes. Whenever I feel sorry for myself being sick while living alone, I have to remind myself how much worse it would be if I had young kids to look after as well! I can barely attend to my own needs.

I know it’s late, but I think I’ll read a bit of Master and Commander before bed. I heard on a podcast the series is actually a good read so I picked up the book and read a couple of pages at lunch.

My real name is out there unfortunately because I worked on a community project some years ago but you’d need specific information on what I worked on to find it.

I hope your cat will forgive you for your transgression.

I used to google my name several times as a teen but not so much now (sounds like that old euphemism). I know my real name is on a couple of publicly available reports and LinkedIn. Never googled my username though, I only ever use this on reddit and Lemmy. I could do with a good purge though

I try not to publicly put my name anywhere I don’t have to, so my full name has no results. Baku seems to be a pretty common username, so not many personal results there, although I’ve definitely said more here/on Reddit than I should’ve. my Reddit username only has a couple of results, one from a shitty buzzfeed article that exploited my willingness to help a tourist for clicks, and the rest from dodgy reddit mirrors. And my discord username is, well, a discord username. there’s only a single result for it from outside Discord

That reminds me, I once got a really strange spam email that was addressed to (my first name)@aol.com with my primary Gmail address (which doesn’t and never has had my first name even listed in the name section, let alone in the username) CC’d in. I don’t even remember what it was spamming me with, just that it was in broken English and Gmail didn’t flag it as spam. It was really odd

I used that Google security function recently which goes off to see where you’re mentioned and it happily said nowhere. I have a blog out there with numerous photos of my face on it but there’s nothing linking my full name to it. I just Googled my name and found my Facebook profile though. This was using my shortened name which I generally use. Searching with my full name has nothing I can see. Weird… my Google account uses my name to post Google reviews and I’ve done a couple but they didn’t show up in a search.

Anyways… feeling pretty ok about my online presence. I know all of my email addresses have been compromised but there isn’t much I can do about that besides keep good MFA security and spam filters on those.

I try to be invisible online under my real name. I mostly succeed. It helps that my name is common, so there are lots of hits and none of them are me. If I am ever suddenly a news story, the journos are going to have a hard time finding my Facebook photo (I don’t have Facebook) to steal and put on their sites. 😃

eh…I’m old enough that social media wasn’t really around when I was young and doing stupid things more publicly. Now, my job makes me pretty public anyway, and there are very, very few people in the world with my exact name, so if you google it, only a few of us appear and the most public one is me. All professional pages, though.

Feeling terrible that it took me so long to notice Melbcat was still sick. When she was fussy about food I thought she was just tired of the usual flavour, and when she was wiggly I thought she was jealous of the computer or bored. She hides it well.

I’ve been wrapped up in my own struggles, getting overwhelmed by literally everything, and didn’t pay attention as closely as usual.

Edit: Yeah… I’m giving these socks one chance to come good in the wash and then if they’re still too tight they’re getting donated. The point of buying new clothes and lip balm was to be more comfortable and if something is not doing that then it’s just clutter.

Too sick and in too much pain to stuff around anymore or tolerate anything that makes me feel worse. Also fuck how I look

It’s okay about melbcat, like you said they hide it well. Just the way cats are. Try not to beat yourself up, you’re taking care of her and getting her help so I think you’re doing great for her!

Oh melbsy. Don’t beat yourself up about it. Cats evolved to hide their pain and injuries as best as they can. It’s one of their basic instincts. Cats also have off days just like humans, and some days they just don’t want to be held even when they’re perfectly fine. You did the best you could given the situation, and that’s all you can be expected to do

So the RE has forwarded the call fee invoice to us from the plumber. I expected it, because it was my washing machine.

It’s $500. FIVE HUNDRED! For the guy to diagnose the issue in less than half an hour.

Lucky I got my tax return today, paid it in full and did some ass-kissing in the email back to the RE. Like, plumbers have to do a lot of gross things, of course they should be compensated appropriately, but he just moved my fridge and washing machine and walked around with his detector device. Lol. He made bank.

It might be worth calling and letting the plumber know that the RE has passed the charge to you - sometimes they charge crazy fees because they know they can. Total shit practice, but maybe it’s worth a try?

I already paid it this morning and I cannot be bothered asking about it tbh. I could probably negotiate it down, but I just want it to be done and to focus on drying out the carpet and skirting board to assess repairs.

It’s a $500 lesson to not freak out and check my own appliances before calling anyone lol!
