More on what we are paying for when we donate to the Mastodon for Harris-Walz fundraiser, https://secure.actblue.com/donate/mastodon-for-harris: the largest voter protection program in the history of America. https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/trump-harris-election-08-17-24#h_2a30dcf1891ad9c8be92da25c6c56fffv
Let me say a bit more about that. 1/
cc @kamalaharrisforpresidentnews
I know a number of the big name attorneys playing important roles in the #HarrisWalz fight to ensure ballot access this November - Marc Elias, Seth Waxman, and Vanita Gupta. These lawyers are crème de la creme: sharp as anything. Elias and Waxman bring with them younger lawyers who will put in hundreds of hours. All the attorneys involved will take time from their family and friends and put it into protecting the vote. 2/
The lawyers on the #HarrisWalz team will not charge for all the hours they put in. But the young lawyers especially cannot write off their time - they have student loan debt, young families, mortgages - all the usual expenses that have to be met. We have to help #HarrisWalz2024 pay for the very hard work these lawyers are going to keep putting in. https://secure.actblue.com/donate/mastodon-for-harris 3/
@heidilifeldman
Yeah, the lawyering part is going to be so important in this election.
I had been looking for where I could send money to support Elias’s work, and had only gotten as far as finding the Democracy Docket web site.
(cont’d …)
@heidilifeldman
With this announcement, does that change things? I don’t mind giving to the general fund (via #MastodonForHarris , of course), but I’d love to be able to say “this is for the law stuff”. Also, some people might have max’ed their per-person candidate contributions, so can’t go that way, but still want to support the legal team.
In summary: Where should people who want support this send contributions?
@jztusk @heidilifeldman I donated to Democracy Docket a couple weeks ago, in addition to donating to Harris.
@BruceMirken @heidilifeldman
Excellent!
I wasn’t sure, as Democracy Docket seemed to be the informational web site, and I wanted the most direct support of the lawsuits, so had been looking to see if there was a separate fund for that.
