My pumpkin pie won the “Family Favorite” award. My competition was a store-bought pie from a really good local bakery. Theirs was much sweeter, with less spice.
The whipped cream turned out really good, too. We have plenty of pie left over, so I’ll get to enjoy it again later today.
Congrats!
Congrats! Since pumpkin pie isn’t really a thing over here, I never had any. But I can see how yours won if the other is just “more sweet, less spice” - if I want to enjoy a pumpkin soup, I seriously don’t look at canned options anymore. Most of them just put an emphasis on the sweet parts of pumpkins and add lots of unhealthy sugar to it. Turns out if I cook it with my parents and we add lots of different spices (and fresh garlic), the end result is at least ten times better 😉
Yeah, it was sort of surprising because each pie gets 1.5 cups of brown sugar… so mine wasn’t not sweet.
I think it’s not the amount of sugar that yields good results, but the amount of spices. Combined with the sweetness, they are what really satisfies our taste buds. It’s the same with german lebkuchen (gingerbread cake). Get a generic, cheap store-brand and they are just really sweet little nothings. Buy them from a good bakery shop or artisan and you’ll have this great, delicious taste.
I love a good homemade pumpkin pie. Send me extras pls ;)
