🎉🎉🎉🎉 It’s Friday!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
The topic of this discussion is: anything.
Anything exciting going on in your life? Things got you down? Did you try a new recipe that you’d like to share? etc.
Hope those who celebrated had a great Thanksgiving!
Finally done with my week of early shifts. Being used to staying up very late, this is always a massive PITA for me. I’m constantly tired, muscles and joints are aching and I feel awful mentally. Well, except today since my 1-hour nap turned into 5 hours as I forgot to set my alarm correctly.
I’ve switched to another Lemmy client I found on Droid-ify: Raccoon . Not affiliated with the creator in any way, just thought it looked very great and after trying it out in anonymous mode for a few days, I finally decided to make the switch yesterday. It’s even better than Voyager was, as now I also had a full-on profile editor built in. I was finally able to add some stuff to my bio and add my newest Matrix ID 😎 Big pro is that it doesn’t always display images in their full resolution like Voyager used to do… scrolling through some show and tell/mail call posts was rather challenging, but not anymore. Also good to have one less app dependant on the Google Play ecosystem.
Looking forward to next week since I have an appointment to take measurements for new glasses. The old ones are really getting uncomfortable, it was definitely a mistake to just rely on a name brand with its stock model instead of going the more expensive custom route again.
Early shifts —
I’m grumpy if I have to be in a meeting by 9 am!
Ha! Try getting up at 4:30 AM and starting to work by 6:30 AM when you’re usually going to bed around 1:00 to 2:00 AM. By 9:00, we’re usually done with basic care (washing our residents, getting them dressed and giving them breakfast) and have our first smoke/vape break. Nursing is tough, but I’ll always prefer late and night shifts.
I almost installed Racoon yesterday, but didn’t. I’ll have to check it out.
Looks really good on my phone with its AMOLED dark mode and the custom colours. It also has the swipe for votes/reply/save function. The only thing it misses in comparison to Voyager: user mentions and a way to see the comment you’re replying to whilst typing your reply (made quotes by copy paste really easy).
My pumpkin pie won the “Family Favorite” award. My competition was a store-bought pie from a really good local bakery. Theirs was much sweeter, with less spice.
The whipped cream turned out really good, too. We have plenty of pie left over, so I’ll get to enjoy it again later today.
Congrats!
Congrats! Since pumpkin pie isn’t really a thing over here, I never had any. But I can see how yours won if the other is just “more sweet, less spice” - if I want to enjoy a pumpkin soup, I seriously don’t look at canned options anymore. Most of them just put an emphasis on the sweet parts of pumpkins and add lots of unhealthy sugar to it. Turns out if I cook it with my parents and we add lots of different spices (and fresh garlic), the end result is at least ten times better 😉
Yeah, it was sort of surprising because each pie gets 1.5 cups of brown sugar… so mine wasn’t not sweet.
I think it’s not the amount of sugar that yields good results, but the amount of spices. Combined with the sweetness, they are what really satisfies our taste buds. It’s the same with german lebkuchen (gingerbread cake). Get a generic, cheap store-brand and they are just really sweet little nothings. Buy them from a good bakery shop or artisan and you’ll have this great, delicious taste.
I love a good homemade pumpkin pie. Send me extras pls ;)

This month saw a doubling of the number of members of the sub who have written their own SOTD-plugin for their preferred editor.
Will this trend continue?
I hope so!
Made a bunch of software purchases today. I couldn’t resist some of the deals!
Got backups of Roam Two soap and splash, Lavanille trifecta, and a bunch of the new stuff from Stirling.
I also ordered samples of some of Stirling’s coffee, which I’m looking forward to trying.
It’s maybe irresponsible spending, but dang it I like the smells and we can afford it!
I think it’s only irresponsible when there’s more pressing financial matters at hand. From time to time, we want to indulge in a little bit of luxury. As long as you’ve got the spare room for the soaps, why not? 😉
