I remember when she made a whole big deal about realizing that she herself was a problem and her use of drama for attention whoring was making her less likable and that she might not ever be able to find love again… And then that was the same album as “look what you made me do”

I liked her music but i have come to realize she’s pretty awful and refuses to change unless its to protect her wealth and control her image to her sycophants.

And this businesswoman playing safe and out of touch with kids money is beyond disgusting to me now.

wasn’t that “Anti-Hero” from Midnights (2022), not anything from Reputation (2017), the one with “Look What You Made Me Do”? and imo the 2017 album was justified given the massive defamation she suffered from Kanye West, which doesn’t make the things she’s done in the past 5 years better but still more than justifies Reputation for me

        “Delicate”

She was calling herself out eariler than people think.
I think anti-hero is her being more self agrandizing so people think she cared about being a bad person.
She had already dutched friendships because of Katy Perry hiring back some of Swift’s backup dancers, written petty songs about people calling them pedophiles (john mayer) and been clearly on a war path of business. I find “look what you made me do” actually petty and low basically announcing she didnt need to change cause she had the fans. She casts so much shade you would think the sun is going out the way she hogs it up.

It’s crazy it took this long for people to get tired of a 40 year old billionaire singing teen love songs…

Every “good” album was after she broke up with a bf, because that the only relatable experience she has to her fans. Lots of people called that getting engaged/married would be the end of her career.

She simply has nothing in common with her fans anymore. But she’s been a horrible person for decades, especially towards female singers who are younger than her. And now their fans are starting to realize who the problem always was.

Yeah. I grew up on country and remember her first CMT music videos during my formative years.

Waaaay before she was famous, and all the teen drama songs were appropriate.

But she’s had a death grip on that genre so long, her current competitors weren’t even born when she released her first album. Legitimately, her first song released 19 years ago at 18, I checked.

That’s like people say all the “versions” are just a cash grab, but it’s more nefarious, for over a decade when a young female artists releases a big album for that demo, Taylor drops a new version to steal sales away from younger artists.

She’s got a pure boomer mentality about it. She’ll never try to bring the next generation on, she intentionally and consistently puts them down so she can maintain her position at the top of the pile.

There’s zero indication she can grow as an artist, and more and more people are considering that sad.

Shes gonna go from the world’s biggest start to a joke very fast, but it’ll still take years to really start.

The fucking straws aren’t great, but the real problem has always been the oligarchs and corporations.

So they come up with stuff that won’t help, but will get people pissed at climate activists.

Shit’s so obvious but no one ever talks about it. It’s the same principle as means testing, divide and conquer

I remember something where Tina Fey wrote a bit on SNL parodying swift and someone interviewed Taylor and she said something to the effect of “as Barbara Walters says there’s a special place in hell for women who don’t support other women” about Fey in regards to a pretty gentle and innocuous comedy bit. Which was funny because Barbara Walters was a shitty person who broke down other women too. I honestly think Swift isn’t super different from Kanye. They’re both rich, self-obsessed assholes who have zero sense of humor about themselves and zero real-world awareness. A lot of people have known she was a piece of shit for a long time but if you ever said anything about it you were called a liar, sexist, jealous, or we’re just doxxed by swifties

At least Kanye West’s lack of awareness stems from him refusing to take medication to stabilize himself (on top of being a petty bitch who’ll die on any hill he’s standing on, even if he found himself there unintentionally).

Taylor Swift is just milquetoast, “I don’t understand why the poors are complaining” rich apparently.

Most of her hardcore fans are remarkably dumb. Even the ones who have finally seen the light, quoted in this article.

“I don’t expect celebrities to be political or foreign policy experts, but the past few months have felt like her only concern is selling us a plethora of vinyl variants.”

The past few months?!! She’s been hawking vinyl variants for years. The album before this one dominated the charts for months because they released so many variants.

“I’m a fan ― I even flew to Scotland for the Eras Tour ― but Taylor has felt out-of-touch lately.”

Oh yeah. Just lately. Keep using that brain of yours. You’ll get there.

Like, not just a song about his dick and that is juvenile. But a song about him that sounds like a 7th grader wrote it.

A bad attempt at Sabrina Carpenter’s whole deal.

I could be wrong, and I know he’s left on some things, but it’s mostly the refusal to denounce things said by the more outwardly right wing teammates he has (Butker) and apparent happiness at playing in front of Trump at the super bowl. If he’s not actually maga, he’s as least centrist enough to be ok with magats.

His previous girlfriends were black, that’s actually part of the controversy of this new album - the little slights against black women that Travis used to be interested in or date, like Meg the Stallion. She previously was criticized for being kinda racist with Shake it Off music video and Wildest Dreams video (and a little with the T Swizzle thing), and lack of black staff, friends, etc. Afaik she has not done much to remedy this.

But I actually agree that both of them are at least MAGA-fishing and doing something weird. I dont think their relationship is healthy, I think they objectify each other. And that’s why she got bad plastic surgery and messed up her eyes a little and face a little, because she’s so insecure with this man for some reason and is trying to overcompensate with trad wife stuff. It isn’t healthy at all imo.

Her saying she turned down the Superbowl just in case Travis might be there, and that him playing is like being on a battlefield and that it’s more important to focus on him - who tf is that? Not the Taylor who wrote “The Man,” surely.

Maybe you were going by appearance? He sure looks like one. I’m a middle-aged white redneck, only my long hair might clue you in I’m no MAGA.

About appearances, I was at a party in the state park last week. The only other white guy was the birthday girl’s husband and everyone was mostly speaking Tagalog and bits of broken Spanish, so him and I talked a good bit. This dude is 69 and really struck me as MAGA.

“Damned glad I’m done serving. I couldn’t take orders from that orange moron.”

I didn’t know Lemmy hated Taylor Swift. If I heard that, I would have guessed it was because she is “too mainstream,” but now I also see that it is because she is rich and is in a relationship with someone not politically pure enough.

I also suppose that endorsing Harris in the last election probably turned people off.

No one gets to be a billionaire without stealing from other people. Her private jet trips spending what should be the CO2 budget of a mid sized city even without accounting for the rest of her lifestyle cements her as a net negative for humanity.

It’s a platform catering towards techy middle aged men that can’t relate to her story at all. Of course, there’s always the bullshit about “of course I can’t relate to being a greedy billionaire” but it’s every single aspect, namely, never having been a teenage girl.

These guys will then go on to act like the teen girl story is a gimmick and that she should do something more mature, then scroll and geek out over painting some 40K figurines. Spoiler alert, we never stopped being kids, we just got wrinkly and gray.

I don’t get Swift. 300,000,000 women do. Clearly, she’s striking a chord somewhere significant.

Swift arguably never got to be a normal teenage girl either, and/or is still mentally a teenage girl. She was pushed into stardom from a young age and was surrounded by yes-men so she was never challenged, therefore never given an opportunity to grow.

Also, there’s a difference between having stereotypically immature hobbies and being actually emotionally and creatively immature lmao

That might be biased because your own age puts you into groups of interest to others your own age. I tried to be encompassing with “middle age” because, well, that probably includes me, a 30-something teenager. But that being said, I have felt there’s been a slow swing to at least be inclusive of 18-25 year olds. But I also have confirmation bias there because I can’t hang with the kids’ slang anymore, so it stands out when I see it.

Digression: I’d like to do a study on “what’s the funniest number” because it’s both age and time dependent. 69 has been funny for a long time, but for boomers and older, was there any other funny number? Gen x and some millennial would likely say 42 (Hitchikers guide to the galaxy). Other millennial might hark back to SpongeBob with 24/25. But what has obviously gotten me curious is 6-7. Of course, my assumptions stem only from my own observations and I could be missing large entries.

I’m a 54-yo techie. There seems to be far more people my age and older than I ever saw on reddit. Part of the reason I say that is so many mention their age when appropriate in context. There was an Ask Lemmy thread the other day where you almost had to state your age and I felt on the mid-younger end. Weird.

Also, there’s so many joke and memes that I would think only Millennials or even back to GenX would get.

“As god as my witness, I thought turkey’s could fly.”

Loads of people will get that reference. And that aired in 1978!

Got to say, Lemmy doesn’t feel like a hivemind-type place the way Reddit sometimes does — at least not to me.

If people love her, that’s fine. I’d say she’s definitely more talented than a lot of vacuous pop out there. But the level of adoration does seem a bit cult-like.

Not sure if anyone saw her on Graham Norton, but she came across as a bit self-involved, and it was painful watching the other guests fawn over her. Lewis Capaldi, with his down-to-earth humour and unfiltered honesty (plus his mild Tourette’s), was a total breath of fresh air in comparison.

I care as much about her as I’ve cared about any pop diva over the past 40 years; not at all, other than rolling my eyes about how important so many people seem to think they are, and quietly looking forward to the day I never hear about them again. They’re not for me and that’s fine. If little girls like her, that’s also fine, but the screaming fanaticism they attract has always baffled me.

I’ve never heard a single one of her songs, and have zero interest in changing that. So, no hate, just apathy, with a bit of frustration at the stupidity of the masses. A normal day, in other words.

It’s entirely possible I have heard one of her songs playing in a supermarket or somewhere, but didn’t recognise it as her, although, that said, my local supermarket doesn’t seem to play anything from this century.
