It’s funny though, reading those books it seems that Michael Crichton has deep disdain for scientists.

chocrates@piefed.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think mind control technology would be possible? How long do you think it would take to be invented? (propaganda and indoctrination does not count, I mean *actual* mind control)English2·1 day agoGood point. Imo humans are just biological machines responding to stimulus so any stimulus is going to change the system somehow.

(propaganda and indoctrination does not count, I mean *actual* mind control)English2·1 day agoWas gonna say, we have proven that external stimulus can change the brain so yes in a broad sense we can mind control today.
Given enough time and research I’m confident we could understand how to influence the brain in more complicated ways.
We still don’t really understand the brain though and it’s perfectly possible that other things can influence it (gut bacteria?) so strictly sending stimulus to the brain might not be enough
Hahahaha I hate it

According to one of the articles above the publishers operating profit last year was “only” $300m so that bonus would make the shareholders mad I guess.

I’m still working on the being too fat part
Shit good point. Through multiple deaths I am a fractional owner of 3 properties, and I can’t afford to be a homeowner
Same. We have to get private equity out of homes, but telling people on the edges that they will get caught up is going to make it a tough sell. Even if we account for the example above, another family that wasn’t on the edge of affordability might be after the change.
With something like this we may need to offer buybacks or short loved exemptions of some sort.
I know for the public good this is the right answer but this is not a winning strategy
This makes me unreasonably annoyed. Good for you OP!
That is one of the purposes of this. Even if they completely destroyed all the fabs and couldn’t repurpose them, it hamstrings the US
