Today’s game is Mario Kart 64. I was going to have a bunch more Halo screenshots setup for today, but i got fed up with Bazzite and suddenly hopped ships. I have officially switched over to CachyOS. I’m sorry to Bazzite, but i’m in love. This literally works so much better. OS Troubles aside. In the move i lost the Theater Clips. So… i didn’t want to finagle things so i just stuck to my idea of a nice evening.

I mixed things up and drove around as Luigi. I’m not sure how i feel about this because it kind of feels like cheating on Toad. I’ve played Toad like everytime for the past 2 years i think. Still, i had a nice time driving around and racing as Luigi. He gives me awkward older brother vibes. Like he’s just happy to be there.

I did Koopa Troopa beach of course. I even hit the shortcut. There was something going on with the clouds where one of them was just static and constantly rotating with the camera.

I also do Choco Mountain. This is the only course on here that i avoid. Not because it’s bad, but just because I just like to avoid falling down the side and losing a ton of time.

I kind of stopped for a minute and just watched the water and the boulders fall down. It was a nice time. Overall that’s all i kind of got up too. I wish i had gotten those Halo screenshots as i rather liked some of them, but oh well. It can’t be helped. I at least had a good time here.

This is interesting, I’ve never heard of cachyOS. I’ve been running bazzite for a while now, I’ll have to check it out.

In related news, I’ll be trying to set up 8-player double dash on my HTPC with bazzite installed for a party coming up. Hopefully I can convince two instances of dolphin emu to LAN to each other

On Linux Valve’s Proton makes it so easy. Literally makes it basically the same as playing on Windows (save for a few rare games that don’t work). As for how long I’ve done it, I just have a lot of free time on my hand

Curious to know what happened with Bazzite to make you switch. I haven’t used it myself but I’ve only heard good things about it.

Been thinking of trying out cachy, but I already have perfectly good and configured Arch, so haven’t bothered.

Edit: 498 days? Holy… It feels like 365d was just a moment ago

It was a whole bunch of stuff. Steam kept crashing while in games then reopening, taking focus away from the game. Halo just wouldn’t work with Steam Clips. It would crash whenever I tried. Hardware Acceleration just refused to work without running Steam out of the terminal with some commands. And then finally, the Game Mode (which was like a major reason I picked Bazzite) was too slow to be practical and Game Clips just didn’t work.

I was using the GNOME desktop instead of KDE which may have been affecting things, I’m not sure, but I had heard good things about CachyOS and Big Picture mode can substitute for a proper Game Mode. I decided if I was going to do a reinstall I may as well try it first.

is Steam a flatpak or such on Bazzite? AFAIK that makes quite a difference. DE shouldn’t, but… who knows.

Either way, if the change was a positive one, it’s great.

          I don’t believe it was a flatpak, i’m not 100% sure though.

But yeah, this change is nice. I was able to use hardware acceleration and Game Recording without crashing which is nice

I love some classic Mario Kart 64, but a family member and his friends kind of ruined that one for me. It’s a game that has relatively little content and is best played in small doses to not get sick of it, but they didn’t do that. They went through a whole phase of playing it every day and gaining expert level skills in it. I was not aware of how deep the meta for MK64 is, because the last time I played against them, they were exploiting glitches in virtually every track and leaving everyone else in the dust.

Was always more of a Diddy Kong Racing fan anyway.

That’s how I am with 8. All my friends like to play 8 and they’ve got over 500 hours in it, meanwhile I have sub 100. They’re over here pulling off tricks and glitches while I’m accidentally drifting the wrong direction.

Also yeah, I agree with the small doses part. Whenever I try to relax with it I can only do 1 cup

Fellow Bazzite-to-CachyOS user! I agree, Cachy is so much better, especially for learning Linux. Bazzite was great, but layering packages with RPM-OStree was just too esoteric for me.

Yeah, you aren’t really supposed to layer packages they want to use something like distrobox or similar. I know some things basically have to be (I am fighting with openjdk) but that is where 99% of my issues on bazzite came from. I started just spinning up a vm to run all my random bullshit that required layering in and its been solid ever since.

When i was looking into switching to linux I tried out a bunch of flavors through vm’s and I am glad I did because the one I thought I wanted ended up not even working through a vm and in the end I also loved CachyOS the most as well! This was earlier in the year and honestly I am still planning out how to rebuild my main pc. Im more afraid of spending an entire day formatting and rebuilding and not be in a position where it works well enough and be disappointed that I lost my setup that worked fine.

I’ve been thinking about swapping some parts and that’s how I am too. Namely my GPU and Wi-Fi card. I’m paranoid it will bust something. I suppose tinkering is like 50% of what I do for fun, but still. With how much I need my PC I’m hesitant

I love Mario Kart but for some reason I’ve never been able to get into any version older than MK DS.

I’ve always heard good things about DS specifically, but never really could get into it. Except DK Pass, I love that track
