Someone on my town Facebook page complaining about not having any options for internet (Comcast only in our town) and someone chimes in not to worry because wired internet is dead and everyone should just 4G through T-Mobile SMH
China is starting to roll out their 6G already which promises 100Gbit/sec. By the time the rest of the world gets its from a other vendors China will already have over 2 million towers upgraded to the system, just like what happened with 5G.
Technology can not surpass physics. Wireless is already at its peak and can not just magically become faster because you want it to.
Yeah that must be why they are rolling out tones of new fibre 🙄

Or he realizes that both are fast enough for most people, and the market for extreme internet speed is a bit like the market for sports cars that can do 150 mph. You can sell them to enthusiasts, and to people who are convinced by shiny ads, but most people aren’t going to notice that extra speed in everyday use.
If an ISP figures they can get 100% of customers in a neighborhood by building fiber infrastructure down every street and renting space on poles, or they can get 90% of those customers by installing one cell tower, some might be OK with a relatively small investment that still gets them most of the customers.
I make Fiber Optic cables that get dropped in the ocean… Hardwired networks are not going away, and if anything, they keep expanding.
As far as DSL goes, yes, that is dated, using the existing lines, which many companies will advertize as their “high speed internet” in more remote areas. Wireless is faster then DSL, as is Satalite. But the only wireless that can compete with fiber optic cables, is quantum entanglement, and that technology is probably 20 years out, to perfecting for consumer use, at minimum. And cell towers are still connected to the data network by fiber optic cables.
Incompetence exists in this world, and there are people that don’t question if they’re wrong. Just be careful, as incompetence can be contagious. Never under estimate the power of incompetant people in numbers, as that’s how the United States governement exists.

Cable can be good (just need to get the signals and channels bonded correctly).
Wireless would be a last resort. The radios have too many issues for me to ever switch to wireless as my primary. I live in a large metro area and it’s just not reliable.
Satellite is a good alternative when in rural (like for my cabin) and there are no other options.
Ah yes the promise of 5G. It’s so fast it misses my cell antenna all the time

Wireless LTE based Internet is ALWAYS going to have some very strict data caps just by the nature of the technology and 6G will change little this situation, even if you get a few hundred gigs of data you will go through it with 4K in a few days.
So we don’t need our wires any longer, that’s great news! And if I have a problem, it’s my wires ?
probably a puma6 issue if town has Comcast issues. I’d bet $5 on a puma6 chipset being the problem over inside wiring installed by Comcast tech.
I live out in the boonies, aka county. The only wired we could get when we moved out here was DSL, so we went to the normal satellite waiting on Starlink. But I found out about 4G internet resellers, so much better than sat. Went from 25mbs with a hard 20gig cap to 200mbs with a soft (reprioritised) 50gig cap. But where the two towns on either side of me are still having issues with the old copper cable, the cable company pulled fiber to us. Now they are working through the town. Now on the note of all the splitters inside that does mess with things. Last place I lived and several friends I have helped them fox the issue. And clean up their cables runs. Had a friend go from 200mbs to the full gig he was paying for. It was cause of all the splits and old cables.
Yeah, I have 2.5 gbps symmetrical fiber at my house. I have wifi 6 access point pts on cat 6a. Lets see some 5g compete with that.
