Not sure if this is legit or not:

On 25 November 2025, during the closing hearings at the Central Military Court of the Yekaterinburg District, the prosecution demanded 20 to 24 years in a high-security penal colony for the members of a Marxist study circle in the city of Ufa, accusing them of “terrorism” and “conspiracy to overthrow the government.”

Does anyone have legit insights about the state of Marxism and communists in Russia? How or why the current government is unveiling statues of Lenin and Stalin anew and how that holds up against this article (in this regard, is idcommunism.com a legit source)?

Any legit source or insight is appreciated.

    The situation in Russia is described by the KPRF as follows:

    • As for the Altai Krai, the communists there have a “very militant organization,” although there is also a “purely regional conflict.” At the federal level, by contrast, it seems the CPRF has received “favored treatment,” Kalachev added. However, one can expect more situations in which local CPRF branches will face pressure ahead of the Duma campaign, the political scientist suggested.

    • “I certainly wouldn’t talk about systemic pressure across the country. Such arrests could actually backfire and strengthen the party’s position, bolstering its image as the sole opposition,” says political scientist Dmitry Elovsky. With the right media promotion from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, such criminal cases could well boost the party’s ratings ahead of the State Duma elections, since the protest-minded electorate hasn’t gone away, he notes.

    As for the source, it comes from the KKE which has history with problematic views as explained in this easy in Prolewiki. Within their current ideology, they consider China and Russia as imperialist so articles like this(also in other articles about China) they tend to decontextualize the news while exaggerating certain arguments to make you arrive to that conclusion. You can also find similar rhetorical writing when they talk about the Ukraine war and China.

    For my perspective, they tend to create a lot fiction and lies just like the imperialist do regularly to bash Russia and China. As the author of the essay above, they are not allies but traitors.

        No worries. There have been lots of progress in Russia and I have shared plenty of posts about it in this community. That’s why the KKE premise of active persecution of marxists doesn’t fit well with reality if we investigate plenty of Grassroot initiatives that have been done in Russia. However, it does fit well with Europe though!

        As for the case in the news presented by KKE, I am pretty sure that the person could have been confused with a saboteur which are running rampant in Russia and the Donetsk. The Banderites(and/or their backers) are paying huge sums to any citizen to commit acts of sabotage. One example will be in the same Yekaterinburg region where a group of teenagers set fire to a locomotive on orders from a foreign intelligence officer -> https://tass.ru/proisshestviya/24762711. They were promised 120,000 rubles for their work.

        As of any country that is currently being sieged by the imperialist, if you give hints of a desire of sabotage, you will be arrested and this can happen anywhere from Iran to China.

        I really have very little to add that has not been said already in the excellent response given here, but I will just point out that this entire IDC article includes zero sources except a link to the KKE’s complaint letter, which in itself is just a lengthy polemic. At the very least a link to an original Russian media article, or a Russian communist perspective about the events would have been useful, so we can understand the context.

        KKE and IDC are known to have ultra-leftist views but this does not immediately mean that everything they write is wrong or that they can’t provide useful insights, but you need to make sure that you vet or corroborate the story in particularly controversial or inflammatory pieces like this which heavily polemicize and are designed to convince you of a specific political line (“Russia bad”) rather than presenting an article of news.
