In a post from a few days ago, I noticed that someone mentioned that they were afraid to post about their dislike of the Tudor BB58 for fear of downvoting. You know what? The BB is a boring watch that’s not worth the money, and Tudor wouldn’t be half as popular as it is without the connection to Rolex. If Rolexes were as attainable as they were in past years, cut that by a factor of 10. Would you really buy a BB if the reality were that you could just save a little bit more and get a Rolex Submariner? That’s my hot take. What’s yours?

Everything that youtube reviewers crack on aren’t that important. If every watch had a sapphire crystal, an adjustable clasp, 200m WR with a screw down crown, was “value for money” and had good lume… well, we’d all be wearing a dive watch from a microbrand.

I like the variety of watches out there.

This description is way to accurate describing the cheap (albeit quality) Chinese homage dive watches. My Heimdallr Sharky feels attacked

This. I recntly had this realization when looking into the new Hamilton Boulton “Indy” version. Imo it’s just a great-looking watch and a good price; every single review talked about how disappointing it having a snap-on back case was…What?

Same, though for me personally, the absolute minimum dealbreaker for any watch (excluding something like a G-Shock) is that it needs a sapphire crystal. I am tough on my watches, and a non-sapphire will get scratched up (or worse) very quickly.

Acrylic is my favourite bar none. I live domed acrylic. I wish I could get a river made by Tudor, or Omega or someone with acrylic.

Not interested in Longines, Oris, etc

Same. For some reason, I always found the metal door jamb (around the magnetic lock) at ATM booths with my watch.

Oh Hardlex, I hardly knew ya.

I guess now its just an indicator of quality for me if they use sapphire - as it isn’t expensive. It’s just not cheap like mineral.

Bought a great looking Dufa meca-quartz, but returned it as soon as I discovered the domed crystal wasn’t sapphire. That’s just begging for trouble.

Everyone on this sub should be issued an orient Kamasu to show them they don’t have to be an obsessed weirdo spending five figures on a watch to get all the “premium” features

And those old dive watches from the 60’s? Only rated for 5atm. So, on a normal day, went I’m not on call for Seal Team 6, I think I’m be fine with any watch that is 5atm.

In fact there is huge controversy about needing anything more and swimming with one is absolutely fine.

I love dive watches, but it is quickly becoming apparent that they serve little purpose now.

Other controversial opinion: Watches are too damn thick and big. It’s like the trend with car emblems. Refinement is why I got into this game.
