In a post from a few days ago, I noticed that someone mentioned that they were afraid to post about their dislike of the Tudor BB58 for fear of downvoting. You know what? The BB is a boring watch that’s not worth the money, and Tudor wouldn’t be half as popular as it is without the connection to Rolex. If Rolexes were as attainable as they were in past years, cut that by a factor of 10. Would you really buy a BB if the reality were that you could just save a little bit more and get a Rolex Submariner? That’s my hot take. What’s yours?
Oooh now that’s a hot take!
I completely disagree because, to me, the ability to check the time in the middle of the night without having to blast my face with the light of my smartphone is one of the very few areas where a watch is genuinely superior in terms of functionality.
Ok I get where your coming from, but let me counter with a few questions. Because of that one reason, all your watches need to have lume? You can’t buy a $10-20 clock for your bedside? Out of the hundred times you look at your watch, how many of those time are in the middle of the night?
Not saying it not cool, just saying 99% of the time it’s not even needed. Let’s say you look at your watch in the middle of the night 5/100 times which I think would be high (maybe?). So that means the 5% of the times you look determine the type of watch you need to have
Not all my watches need to have lume sure but, in my case, I wear the same daily wearer 90% of the time and a different watch (more dressy usually) the rest of the time. And for this daily watch, the watch I’m going to be wearing most of the time, lume is definitely an important factor (to me).
I’m with you on this one, I find myself looking at my watch in the dark at least once a day
Yeah! People will say that a watch is nothing more than men’s jewelry these days because it does nothing that another tool doesn’t do 100x times better, and I think that’s true 99% of the time, but lume is only of the very exceptions. Lume genuinely gives you a functionality that you can’t really get anywhere else, the ability to check the time in the dark without the need to turn on a light.
