Fight Club. It wasn’t fun to read it felt like the author was ploying with me trying purposefully to confuse me to a point where it forced me to become disinterested. However with the movie i was captivated every second. The book’s attempt to obscure and mystify the reader might have been an intentional stylistic choice, but for me, it didn’t translate well.
ITT: movies that I didn’t know were originally books
Not a big-name film, but the adaptation of Disobedience is certainly superior to the very average novel that its source material, and unusually, much more subtle, making changes that are a significant improvement.
No country for old men
Not a movie but Dexter. The show was not perfect but my god those books were awful.
This is how I feel about True Blood
THE PRESTIGE.
Christopher Priest’s novel is very good but the Brothers Nolan changed a few minor twists and rearranged the timeline a bit and made it even better
One of my favourite movies of all time (top 3 alongside The Shining and LOTR Trilogy)
I’ve never read the book but I don’t really intend to, the movie already exists as a near-perfect of art/media, so I feel no real need to add to it.
David Bowie as Nikola Tesla is perhaps the best casting ever.
The Hellbound Heart/ Hellraiser by Clive Barker
Yes! “Hellbound Heart” is good but Hellraiser is magnificent!
Suprised I’m the first to say it, but American Psycho.
Bridget Jones’s Diary. There were not enough scenes with Darcy in the book for me, and the iconic fighting scene was missing.
Stardust is a much better film than book. Tighter plotting, better characterisation; more action.
Fried Green Tomatoes
the book is a collection of news stories- i didn’t even finish it - it wasn’t for me - others may like it tho
but the movie can get me in the feels
Season 1 of Jack Reacher AND the Tom Cruise movie are both better than the book they are based on
Children of Men. The book, by PD James is just not nearly as good as the movie. It has the same premise but, I would say, a different vibe and a focus on religion that really isn’t in the movie. The ending is also completely different. Charon took a great concept with meh execution and really made it sing on film.
Possibly controversial but I like the movie of The Princess Bride much better than the book. The book felt kind of cynical in its humor and had some not great men describing women moments. The movie is almost more pure, like it feels like an expression of joy and laughter.
The Secret Life of Bees. I loved the book so much, but it was better seeing the characters come to life on screen.
Jaws, obviously… It’s a good book, to be fair, but the movie, well…
