I suspect that Gavin would be Ronald Reagan v2.0, if he reaches the oval office. We should strive to get AOC, Mamdani, or even Mark Kelly in there instead.

Whoopsie, just another accidental support of fascism. Surely this time he’ll apologize and not do it again, until his podcast needs more clicks.

In reality there’s no free market as we fully support communism for the capitalist class and cutthroat individualism for the working class but yes both parties have been neoliberal since the 80’s Europe is dealing with it to. It’s really just corruption

          neoliberal

You keep using that word as if you comprehend it.

both parties have been neoliberal since the 80’s

Nope: repeating yourself doesn’t make it true.

Neoliberalism is a libertarian free-market capitalism movement.

Name variants of the free-market revival movement include classical liberalism, economic liberalism, free-market liberalism and neoliberalism.

          Neoliberalism is a laissez-faire capitalism, right-libertarian ideology

Modern liberalism is not for free-market capitalism.

most synonymous with the ideology known as social liberalism

with support for social justice and a mixed economy

Economically, modern liberalism accepts a role for government to protect against market failures, protect competition and prevent corporate monopolies, and supports labor rights. Its fiscal policy supports sufficient funding for a social safety net, while simultaneously promoting income-proportional tax reform policies to reduce deficits. It calls for active government involvement in other social and economic matters such as reducing economic inequality, expanding access to education and healthcare, and protection of the shared natural environment, in large part on the contention that advances in those areas create a thriving economy in the long run.

Major factions of the Democratic party are modern liberals & progressives. The progressive congressional caucus in their party is one of their largest.

          Read them facts & weep.

Especially since when he was governor, he ordered the army into Berkeley to corral the protesting Boomers, but then when those same Boomers got older and richer, they didn’t want to pay taxes so they embraced him. These same “enlightened educated hippies” have descendants who now make up the tech bros controlling the country and embracing fascism.

In his last years, he was as demented as Trump, and he killed millions with purposeful inaction on AIDS, much like Trump with COVID.

when those same Boomers got older and richer

Except it was never the same Boomers. Most of the people involved in student demos remained at least progressive many decades afterwards. There were plenty of other boomers who were rightwing idiots and remained so. They were the ones throwing things at me when I was protesting, so I know. And I know what happened to a large number of my politically-minded peer group, and to many of the Young Republicans who hated us.

It really sucks the way they treated AIDS initially. I still know elders who believe it is a divine punishment for gays. So many people died needlessly because of this.

This doesn’t even scratch the surface of the American genocide known as the war on drugs though. Millions of lives lost and tens of millions of families destroyed. All completely preventable.

They knew all along the right thing to do, but they had to go after the poor and minorities. It was one of the most disgusting representation of oppression and classism in modern times.

I don’t like Newsom (and am not from the USA), but the context of this Tweet is very clearly a response to Trump and an attack on his behaviour (especially of late), re: insulting/mocking Rob Reiner’s death. His office/PR has regularly used Ronald Reagan’s quotes (as the former hero of the Republicans) to point out how completely embarrassing and perverse Trump’s presidency is to their former ‘ethics’ and values, and to ignore that context as tacit approval for Reagan is disingenuous.

This article (from a UK publisher) is really clutching at straws.

Having said all that, personally I think AOC or Bernie would be 100 times better candidates. Original Tweet below.

The DNC just buried its autopsy report from the 2024 election. Who knows what it said. But maybe Democrats ought to simply stop uplifting Republicans every chance they get. Fuck the outreach. Use other examples. I don’t like this guy at all anymore. He’s a snake.

Lol describing the presidency under Reagan as “a reminder of our common humanity” is 1000% praising and whitewashing Reagan, there is nothing “disingenuous” about it whatsoever.

Reagan was a devil in humans clothing. Saying he was humanity at all is spitting on the grave of people who died because of his actions.

The tweet said “the presidency” not “the president.” It didn’t even say anything about Reagan himself, just repeating what Reagan said about the title and office.

Cool, a clickbait headline engaging in the irrelevance fallacy of poisoning the well over a quote. Quoting someone doesn’t mean supporting everything they ever did. Newsom’s quote was recalling a time when a Republican president would say

We’re still a nation comprised of good and decent people whose fundamental values of tolerance, compassion, and fair-play guide and direct the decisions of our government.

in contrast to the current president who’s entirely against such ideas.

The sensational rhetoric against quoting that is dishonest genetic fallacy.
