despite being owned by a state with which the UK has many interests economically will it be one of the cases that might go unpunished?

Most be soulless experience supporting them.
I’ve supported them for 50+ years. It has been the most amazing journey and anything but soulless. In my life we’ve gone from the old First Division runners up , European Cup Winners Cup, League Cup, to relegation and record crowds in the old Second Division, Dickov vs Gillingham, to Aguero vs QPR, Gundogan vs Villa, the treble. The most amazing moments of sporting achievements. But you keep imagining and whining and hoping. It’s all our rival fans have now. Have a great day. I know that I will xxx
First idiotic city fan, it was coming, you belong on Twitter, not on Reddit.
I gave myself 1 billion on fifa career mode and now I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved on the game. I’ve come so far with it
I don’t know. If my club suddenly got bought by a country and was able to buy success perpetually, I don’t know how I would react. I’d like to think my rational self would take over and I would stop supporting the club, but it’s just as likely that the emotional/irrational self would take control.
Ultimately, I think it’s unfair to criticize supporters or look down on them. They aren’t the problem. The governing bodies allowing state ownership of clubs is the problem.
How silly is it to allow a country to buy a club but then not allow them to spend their own money to fulfill the purpose behind buying the club in the first place. The whole thing is bananas.
It’s bloody hard tbh. I don’t think our takeover should’ve been allowed, and it was only allowed to happen due to flagrant Tory corruption. I say that even though without it we’d probably be watching Steve Bruce set us up for long ball footballat Plymouth away.
I can’t pretend that I’m not enjoying our recent success and the general positivity around the club, and watching us in a cup final and the champions league with me elderly dad is something I wouldn’t have dreamed would happen a few years ago - but it’s tinged with the sadness of knowing that it’s been made possible by blood money.
I worry that in 5-10 years it will all just feel soulless, despite the inevitable success heading our way. I’ve already started to watch a lot more of my favourite non-leagues side, but it’s never quite the same feeling when you’ve ‘picked’ a side, compared to supporting your local or family team. Me Dad, being from the North East, thinks the idea of not supporting Newcastle is like being ex-communicated from your native church.
I respect your POV. I feel far too many NUFC fans and MCFC fans only takes the highs and cares about the highs and almost goes blind about the lows, the dark side of their succes story. The sole reason the clubs are seeing succes. But at what cost.
It’s as if they take it as a personal attack and have to defend their club with every fiber of their being, when in reality you can still support your club without supporting your owner. I really lack that from NUFC and MCFC fans, so it’s nice to see there are some round and about with that POV. The football world is taken hostage by sportswashing, it ain’t fun times, but money talks. I still believe and even more so hope, we will take our sport back eventually.
Some people have principles. I wouldn’t support Liverpool if they were bought out. I’d probably go non league like my Dad (who went non league after the owners tried to trademark the word “Liverpool” and put prices up). Got a lot of respect for my Dad for that.
But yeah, being a sportswashing project would be the very last straw. Football is already a soulless entity as it is.
lmao as if you would, mate.
You don’t just stop supporting a club, if you think that then you never truly supported it in the first place.
Ah, the I am a better fan than you reply. Glad to see you get downvoted to shreds.
I definitely would. Like I say, my Dad now supports Marine.
I wouldn’t support my club if they caused the entire league to be banned from European football due to the disgusting behaviour of their own supporters which resulted in the deaths of dozens of innocent people. The fans are the heart and soul of a club and that kind of stain is very difficult to wash away, can’t imagine myself carrying on supporting after that.
Do you feel better about yourself now? You’re the type of person that smell your own farts.
This justification for your success being due to modern slavery, brutality and authoritarianism is incredible.
Forgetting that your fans and players sing a song about a man brutally attacked by Roma ultras resulting in brain damage of course. Heart and soul of the club indeed.
So according to your own logic, you’re well chuffed about all of this.
chef’s kiss
It’s good to see you’re such a bunch of scumbags, you’re willing to use a horrific tragedy to justify taking blood money while taking the moral high ground. Impressive.
lol wtf does that even mean.
Your club sings about the Munich disaster, takes sponsorship money from a terrorism supporting bank, hacks other clubs to steal scouting data, has feral fans who attack opposition team coaches or throw pint pots full of coins in the stadium etc. The list goes on. I’m very happy to not be associated with scumbaggery like that.
You seem to carry a lot of hatred inside. I would seek help if I were in your shoes. It’s football and you’re spewing hatred and holds grudges.
He is trying to use whataboutism. Whataboutism is often used by people who are mentally set back and lacks empathy. To those people the world basically revolves around them and their choisen. They will do anything to justify their choises even stoop to such lows as snowiestflakes chose to. It says a lot about him, but he is best left alone.
Big oily nation’s circling Spurs now. I’d be out and I fucking hate that they can do that.
But that’s my point. Why are we expecting the supporters to take the high moral ground here? Why aren’t football authorities held to the same standard?
It’s a curious phenomenon, to see sports washing in action. Some of them probably know better and just lie about it, others are actually duped
I believe United fans would have moved on to support Liverpool if they’d been bought by the Qatari guy
Enjoying the ride thus far, I don’t care at all about who owns the club. I just enjoy watching the players work their magic on their pitch.
But at what cost? It is sportswashing. Your club is being used to sportswash the crimes of your owner. How can you not care just a little bit about that?
Having watched us be an absolute basket case that jumped up and down the leagues with no real hope of holding on to any players that showed any promise, no. No its not.
We’ve had local businessmen run us into the ground whilst one of our club icons siphoned money out of the club whilst we struggled, and that wasn’t hugely satisfying or fulfilling.
Seeing people who have chosen to support one of the traditionally more dominant teams doing their level headed best to look down on fans who would still be there if the takeover never happened is funny, in a futile kind of way.
Speaking as a lifelong City fan, you’re not wrong. In a way I miss the days of pre-2008 City, back then there were no plastics so meeting another City fan out and about was always a nice surprise. The win that will always matter the most is the 2012 Premier League title, it wasn’t just City’s first title in 44 years but growing up during a time when Utd dominated English football, snatching the title from their hands in the final minute of the final game felt like the best form of payback possible.
Nowadays the extra titles and trophies don’t really mean much. It’s impossible to ignore the fact that none of the club’s current success would have been possible without cheating, even though many fans will continue to do so (my dad and brother included). Winning the Champions League should have been the crowning achievement of the last 15 years, but frankly to me it didn’t mean any more than completing the set. I’m actually hoping the City won’t win the title this year, because I don’t want City to win everything ever, I want other teams to win as well.
And yet, I can’t really turn off the part of my brain that still wants to support the team. I don’t like the fact that City have become a soulless corporation funded by a country that is literally too dangerous for myself to ever enter, and are dominating football in the same way that Utd did when I was younger and caused me to resent them. For so long I’ve been ignoring that, but at this point I would rather see City get brutally punished for cheating than get a slap on the wrist and continue to dominate for yet another season.
If more football fans were like you, it would be a much more tolerable place were rivalries aside we could all find joy in the sport, but instead far too many are being sportswashed to the point of no return or reasoning with. Fans aren’t responsible for their club getting used to sportswash a more and more soulless sport, but fans are responsible for being sportswashed instead of using their head and heart to see it from different ways than just that of seeking glory for the sake of glory.
You are the first City fan I’ve seen online who admits the club cheated. Well done , seriously. Not taking the piss or being sarcastic or facetious.
