NOT DANGEROUS

The people who get mugged first are people like Armando, I don’t know if he is just putting a show but the whole thing is ridiculous. Armando and Kenny, are like going to Medellin Market and living in the Roma neighbourhood (that’s where all the foreigners live) it’s also one of the safest neighbourhoods in the city. It’s not like he is living in Oceania, Iztapalapa, La Viga or even Tláhuac. I’m born and raised in Mexico City, and I can say I have visited most of the city, and Armando being all freaked out about the city it’s like no dude, you don’t know the hoods in the city.

For anyone watching I can just tell you to come to visit Mexico City, the food it’s amazing from Michelin restaurants to stalls on the street, there is a lot of night life and if that’s not your thing there a lot of museums and beautiful architecture.

I’m on episode 2 so no spoilers please!

Kind of off topic, but I am hoping to visit Mexico City next summer- I am currently learning Spanish. Can one get around pretty well with just basic Spanish language skills?

He has since loved the city. Obviously he came from a small town so it was to be expected. My family and everyone I know thought the same when I first visited Mexico City

Before this weren’t Armando and Kenny previously living in one of those gated retirement communities, less than 100 km from the border. whose only population are American retirees?

I was assaulted and robbed by policemen while exploring a local market. I have another friend that was shaken down by cops. These are recent experiences.

    Be careful.

Well like in any country if that happens ask them to take you to the police station to fill a report (from both sides) and you want a translator. It will drop like flies if you ask for all of this (it’s not with their time)

I’ve gone to Mexico City a couple of times and freaking loved it. They really are in some of the safest neighborhoods there and I think the danger has been dramatized as well. I would go back in a heartbeat because there’s so much more I’d like to do there.

That said, the hotel I stayed at on my first trip was in the news for collaborating with some kidnapping from gangs in Tepito (!!), but you can go to NYC or NJ and stay in an area what would equally cause alarm. Most of my family doesn’t like coming here and I’ve heard from many people that they don’t think NYC is unsafe. You’ve just got to keep your wits about you.

I was just talking about this. All cities have good and bad parts. I’m sure Kenny isn’t asking him to move to the dangerous areas.

I tell everyone I meet to go to Pujol if given the chance. Even when they remind me they’re not going to Mexico City anytime soon.

I (35m) went to Mexico City solo a few years ago and it was amazing. Stayed in Centro Historico area, met some locals and went out to the clubs at night with them. Ate amazing food and had a great week with no issues. One of my favourite cities

Yes!!! Thank you for posting this. I stayed one night in Mexico City about a year ago on my way to manzanillo and I can’t wait to go back! Maybe it was the area I was in but it felt very European. Good restaurants, shopping, lots of sculptures and pretty sidewalks down the middle of streets with plants/grass on both sides. So nice and enjoyable!

Went to Mexico City this past summer. Our tour guide/van driver got pulled over (we think because we, the passengers, are white) by La Policia and they extorted him right there on the side of the freeway for 1500 pesos. (Which we reimbursed him for.)

Oh I haven’t seen this but what is Armando’s problem. I’ve been 2x and I absolutely love it there.

    Do they live there now?
