NOT DANGEROUS
The people who get mugged first are people like Armando, I don’t know if he is just putting a show but the whole thing is ridiculous. Armando and Kenny, are like going to Medellin Market and living in the Roma neighbourhood (that’s where all the foreigners live) it’s also one of the safest neighbourhoods in the city. It’s not like he is living in Oceania, Iztapalapa, La Viga or even Tláhuac. I’m born and raised in Mexico City, and I can say I have visited most of the city, and Armando being all freaked out about the city it’s like no dude, you don’t know the hoods in the city.
For anyone watching I can just tell you to come to visit Mexico City, the food it’s amazing from Michelin restaurants to stalls on the street, there is a lot of night life and if that’s not your thing there a lot of museums and beautiful architecture.
I’m on episode 2 so no spoilers please!
There’s a similar mindset in America as well. I live in the country and many people here are scared of big cities. I’m originally from the New York City area, and when I asked a guy that I was dating if he would like to come up to New York with me he said no I don’t want to get robbed. That’s just one of many examples.
Meanwhile NYC is one of the safest Manhattan has a cop every other corner. As to whether or not they’ll assist if you’re being mugged- that’s another story. #nativenewyorker
They definitely cleaned it up from decades ago when times square was next to a red light district. 911 brought in the military and never left. I’m an ex heroin addict and I remember going into New York City just to hang out, but not being able to find any dope anymore, if we got sick we’d have to go back home to Newark. About 20yrs ago.
Let me join you at port authority as we ride that last train to journal square in Jersey city because I’m scared of the PATH
I grew up in the Detroit area and lived in Chicago for almost a decade- don’t even get me started how ridiculous some people are about cities.
Seriously? That’s wild to me. I’ve never met anyone afraid of NYC and live about 20 miles from Manhattan.
For realz. I live in Chicago and people think I’m dodging bullets every day. It’s just not like that here. 🙄
There’s always a shitty part of every big city where you don’t ever want to go, then people act like the whole city is that shitty. Also neighborhoods change ever time, Bed-Stuy in the 70’s and 80’s was a much different place than it is now. But a bad reputation will be what people remember.
But I will say Baltimore is fucking rough. Newark and Camden NJ are rough AF. And currently New Orleans has a police officer shortage, they’re recruiting civilians for non violent crimes and ticketing. Violent crimes are skyrocketing, businesses are closing shop. I work in New Orleans on the weekends and I saw ZERO cops for three days, there used to be cops on horses for crowd control on Bourbon Street. There was a shop that got robbed, and they called the cops, the cops didn’t show up until the next day. After dark I pretty much park wherever I want at this point, civilians aren’t volunteering to ticket the quarter late at night. So I’ll give them Nola, multiple parts of Jersey, and Baltimore.
cries in minneapolis
I’ve been asked by strangers and by family about things they “have heard” about Minneapolis. When I tell them it’s not like that they say I’m lying. They’d rather believe propaganda than the truth. It’s more comfortable for them.
Same. People constantly asking if I feel safe. Have had my catalytic converter stolen multiple times and everyone always assumes in minneapolis and I’m like uh nope, suburbs actually.
