Ok, first thing, before you all tell me to “USE THE SEARCH!” I did, and the most relevant thread I could find was two years old. Stuff changes in two years. I’m on your side, trust me.

Looking to start fresh with a new build and give linux a go for a gaming machine.

For drivers, general compatibility and support, is there a clear winner between AMD and Nvidia for GPUs and/or CPUs?

Any specific hardware to recommend or stay away from?

    I have 2 pcs

One with a rtx 2060 and the other is a rx 6700

    Both run fedora

Both are able to run wayland under kde plasma

Both are able to play games but amd wins here as the valve, wine, proton, amd devs are working faster and harder at fixing bugs and making games work at a faster pace because of the steamdeck

If you buy a amd rx 7000s you wont be able to underclock, overclock or change fan speeds until linux kernel 6.7 because amd is overhauling how it works

Encoding is on par now with h.264 on the latest obs 30

If you’re gonna be working on 3d graphical or editing with davinci then nvidia wins here as its just easier to start using those apps without needing to install other drivers
