Mine’s The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath. Thick books never stopped me from reading nonstop before, but there are entries in the book that just has me stopping and taking time to mull things over.
Also, sharing this excerpt: “Not to be sentimental, as I sound, but why the hell are we conditioned into the smooth strawberry-and-cream Mother-Goose-world, Alice-in-Wonderland fable, only to be broken on the wheel as we grow older and become aware of ourselves as individuals with a dull responsibility in life?”
I have been meaning to catch up on the newer books in the Dune series by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. I caught the first few, but then got focused on other series and need to circle back and catch up.
A Scanner Darkly. I have no excuse either as it’s short, I just can’t really get into it and can’t read more than a few pages at a time. Half way through, I’ll get through it eventually.
The Gardens of Moon. I can’t get past like page 56
David Copperfield. Reading primarily so I can read Demon Copperhead 🫠
Patton, a Genius for War. It was a gift from one of my favorite in laws and a history buff and will finish that doorstopper. I’m 10% in but my goal is done by Christmas.
The Selected Works of T. S. Spivet. Beautifully illustrated with cartography on practically every page. If I read this at a normal pace I’d lose out on much of this.
I’ve been reading The Terror by Dan Simmons for a long time. I’m enjoying the horror and mystery but I have to be in the right mood for it. The atmosphere is freezing and grim. Most of the people are jerks with plenty of racism and classism. There is constantly some horrific tragedy.
circe, by madeline miller. it’s a great book, but i borrowed it from the library around a year ago and got around halfway through and stopped reading. then i bought it earlier this year in hopes of finishing and never got around to it-

how to stay alive in avalanche terrain

the count of Monte Cristo. The issue with this one is that it’s big and a paperback so I don’t like taking it ok flights or when I travel cause it’s going to get destroyed. And I usually start reading something smaller then when I travel, get side tracked and finish that book instead before returning to the count. Which is a shame. Because it’s a really good book.

all of the harry potter books, started reading them 2 years ago and still going because i read books inbetween and at the same time
Not because it’s difficult to read or understand or anything, but I’ve been chipping away at When the Wind Blows by Raymond Briggs for weeks now. I know how the story ends, but I’m just watching as this perfectly nice, hapless, elderly couple consistently makes the worst choices, refusing to acknowledge what’s going on. Of course, that’s part of the point; nuclear war affects many people, most of whom have no real idea of what’s happening or how to stop it.
Grimm’s Fairy Tales…since 2011. I really should pick it back up and finish the book lol

Oppenheimer. It’s a doorstop and I can only manage a few pages a day.
