I’ve seen people talk about actors and artists that had a terrible time.

My own would be Anne Rice. She wrote Interview with the Vampire after her young daughter died of Leukemia. Then her husband suddenly died of a brain hemorrhage. I suspect her Christian, anti-fanfic phase was a result of mental illness and manipulation from the publishers, although I don’t think she ever apologized.

Not a tragedy but George RR Martin and any author whose fan base treats them like shit because they want more. To be clear, writing a series implies that you intend to finish it, but they are under no obligation to do so. Just leave them alone. Maybe he’s just done with it and moved on. Stephen King’s The Dark Tower is a good example of this too. I believe he only really completed it because of his car accident and quickly finished it up. And what did we get? Not exactly the quality that many fans wanted. Basically, just lay off authors in general. They don’t need to hear your hate mail.

Pat Rothfuss falls under this too. He has mental health problems and is raising two kids and running a charity, and yet from the way people talk about him you’d think he’s the absolute scum of the earth for not finishing his series yet and being crabby on social media occasionally. If he weren’t a author he’d get so much more slack given to him.
