My wife and I are in our mid 60’s and retired. We are horrified about possibility of the USA electing a fascist dictator in 2024 and are looking for resources who can coach us in how to relocate and move enough of our money to live on should the USA go in that direction.

We’re considering Panama and Costa Rica. Portugal looks really nice but is seems the favorable tax status is being recinderd.

Any advice regarding resources would be a good start for us. We will probably be taking a trip or 2 to scout things out in the spring.

spanish learn that, budget get real on it, see numbeo for general cost assessments. Pare down anchors create exit strategies from them, otherwise you may get caught up w feet in both places. I personally strongly wave off panama as although it looks kinda good on paper it is miserably corrupt & in your face. That is not so crass an experience in CR although there too 22% of gdp is money laundering related last l looked… CR has a happier community feel hands down though, accepts gringos with gusto vs pa where getting directions many times gets you nowhere in a hurry. Lawyers are required to do anything which to be fair is true in CR as well. The difference is in Pa they have no conflict of interest legal constraints. They can represent both parties and what arises often is being cheated by complicit abogados and happens so often it really unchecks a big box on just feeling targeted. Pa also has no property rights even if you have titled RE. It can be grabbed up and the title can be disappeared by bribes and happens often as well. Search via internet anything panama too and pana city florida relentlessly saturates after a few weak links on Pa the country. They like to say in panama everything good in panama is secret! but don’t learn the hard way… that… everything bad is secret too.
