Nice that it showed a free and open-source method for Mac/Apple OS users. I’m massively here for that!
Isn’t there an addon to do that?
And even that check mostly comes out as true, and is only really needed for games made by large studios/very custom engines.
ProtonDB has many false and misleading reports though as compatibility greatly depends on hardware, software and what you actually do within the game. A ton of games are listed as Gold or Platinum in ProtonDB despite some features like multiplayer or VR support being completely broken through Proton.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice that a resource like ProtonDB exists, but the way it currently works (automatically assigning a rating by the number of ‘works’, ‘works with tweaks’ and ‘doesn’t work’) it just leads to being very misleading in a great number of cases. I still don’t get why they didn’t just copy the rating system of WineHQ’s AppDB where when reporting you can report which parts work and which parts didn’t work and which parts you didn’t test.
I don’t even look into ProtonDB for old games, I just assume that they will work. I don’t play competitive multiplayer games, though.
same tbh lol
I don’t check ProtonDB as I mostly play Single player stuff, the ONLY game I wanted to play and couldn’t is Forza Horizon 5, but I bought it before I moved to Linux.
ProtonDB can be misinformative as well.
Besides that, protondb page on Watch Dogs for example, has a lot of complains about ubisoft launcher issues.
Sure, you can maybe deal with it, but it requires you to jump through few hoops just to achieve subpar experience, meanwhile pirated game will work butter smooth.
Some other games broken by DRM could likely be played pirated without trouble. And also Prey is an amazing game for $3! Get it if you haven’t played it already!
Apple is a joke.
Ban people for posting links to youtube shorts please
Cut for the TikTok generation… yet still informative and entertaining, while respecting the views’ time.
Really hope Linux people would like it.
