Good morning, sorry if this post could be the classic post in which someone doesn’t know whether to switch to Linux for gaming but I’m looking for advice. If I put the wrong flair I apologize and will be ready to correct.

Let me start by saying that I already use Linux on my laptop to study (arch) and I use the Steam Deck with Steam OS and I know some basic commands but obviously I can’t know everything so if I say something wrong I ask you to correct me please.

I have a desktop PC with these specifications:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X

GPU: ASUS NVidia GeForce RTX 2070

RAM: 32GB DDR4 3600MHz

NVME: 2tb

Microphone: Wave Link: 1 (A challenge to use on linux)

In the past I also dualbooted this PC with Arch and it worked quite well but the situation was still from a few months ago.

My following doubts for now are these:

  1. Screenshare for discord, I prefer to use wayland, sometimes I happen to be on a call with my friends and unfortunately I can’t share some windows and I can’t even share the audio and it’s frustrating, I know they have introduced some solutions but I’m not sure which would work better.

  2. My microphone, I remember that I have headphones connected to my microphone and that no one could hear the microphone during the call but I could hear the audio of the entire PC and the others speaking.I think I could solve it by connecting the headphones to the motherboard.

  3. Some games absolutely don’t work on Linux and I don’t know how to fix it, from what I know Call Of Duty, Kingdom Hearts and certainly others.

  4. I’m afraid of losing too much performance on some games but I think it’s not serious.

I’m sure I’m forgetting some points but I can make an edit if necessary.

Let me start by saying that I have always wanted to switch to Linux but that a friend of mine has already done so and is happy with it and also under his advice I am considering changing, Windows has caused me a lot of problems with updates and licenses.

Thanks in advance and have a nice day.

    1. use vesktop/vencord-desktop, supports wayland screen and audio sharing through pipewire. it’s not an offical client tho so take that as you will
    2. strange
    3. true, but most games work
    4. you won’t lose that much performance (im used to seeing games run faster on AMD at least), except in a select few games like starfield because nvidia can’t write good drivers
